why does /lit/ have such a hard-on for him when 10% of you at best can read him without translation
>>
>>7746483
that poem of his where he's telling everyone to pack away the world always struck me as very beautiful

Reputation, boypuss, enfant terrible, complete stoppage of poetic output early on in life, dying in thirties. Cult of inflammation and mystery or something like that I guess.
>>
>>7746513
Which?
>>
>>7746508
easy, we read it in translation

This kind of stuff is honestly incredible, I would in no way call him the peak of Western poetry which I don't see how you can not assign to Dante, but it is still absurdly good.
>>
Shittier than Baudelaire, Rilke, Stevens

Sadly you've only limited this to Western poetry. I'll give you a tip though. The peak of poetry died in the 1980s in China and left behind an unfinished poem that combines elements of Nietzsche, high Mysticism, Taoism, multiple voices, and some of the most powerful and rigorous cosmic and natural imagery out there. See if you can find him.

This is the epigraph of the poem

TSEliot/EzraPound.
死的太早了,否则应该有更成熟的作品。
>>
>>7746774
所以他像Rimbaud一样。

但我真正的意见是Stevens还是Rilke比他们两个还好。
>>
>>7746567
you mean he died in 1972 in Italy, but yeah, Pound was really the peak of (western) poetry

Nah, Crane owns his pansy ass

The tarantula rattling at the lily’s foot
Across the feet of the dead, laid in white sand
Near the coral beach—nor zigzag fiddle crabs
Side-stilting from the path (that shift, subvert
And anagrammatize your name)—No, nothing here
Below the palsy that one eucalyptus lifts
In wrinkled shadows—mourns.

And yet suppose
I count these nacreous frames of tropic death,
Brutal necklaces of shells around each grave
Squared off so carefully. Then

To the white sand I may speak a name, fertile
Albeit in a stranger tongue. Tree names, flower names
Deliberate, gainsay death’s brittle crypt. Meanwhile
The wind that knots itself in one great death—
Coils and withdraws. So syllables want breath.

But where is the Captain of this doubloon isle
Without a turnstile? Who but catchword crabs
Patrols the dry groins of the underbrush?
What man, or What
Is Commissioner of mildew throughout the ambushed senses?
His Carib mathematics web the eyes’ baked lenses!

Under the poinciana, of a noon or afternoon
Let fiery blossoms clot the light, render my ghost
Sieved upward, white and black along the air
Until it meets the blue’s comedian host.

Let not the pilgrim see himself again
For slow evisceration bound like those huge terrapin
Each daybreak on the wharf, their brine-caked eyes;
—Spiked, overturned; such thunder in their strain!
And clenched beaks coughing for the surge again!

Slagged of the hurricane—I, cast within its flow,
Congeal by afternoons here, satin and vacant.
You have given me the shell, Satan,—carbonic amulet
Sere of the sun exploded in the sea.

我个人还是更喜欢Eliot。
Stevens满不错,可我对Rilke从来没什么感觉
>>
How do I into Pound's ouevre? I know you can't just start with the Cantos, what are his best works and his most accessible ones?
>>
>>7747067
Chronologically is probably the best, since his style became more and more difficult to understand as he aged.
