read the variety, then delve after you have a wider scope.
Read a variety of authors in your teen and early twenties. Go deep into the ones you like afterwards.
balance is key. ideally you do both eventually. you should have a grounding in a large number of authors, and autistically deep specialization in a handful to a dozen.
