Is it autistic to use a typewriter?
>>
yeah
>>
It's impractical, but use whatever you want.
>>
It's autistic to care about what people think of your preferred method of writing. If a typewriter works best for you, then use one.
>>
>>7723240
Not really, if it helps your process and focus then I don't see a problem.

That being said most people who use a typewriter are more interested in being a writer than writing
>>
kind of

its like vinyl, its impractical but if you prefer the 'aesthetic' or whatever
>>
Using a typewriter in %currentCentury is about as hipster as tattooing HIPSTER on your forehead, but if it works use it, it's not quite as impractical or autistic as literally carving your work into stone tablets at least..
>>
>>7723416
I'm going to write all my novels on stone tablets.
>>
It might impair your judgement. If you type something dumb like "Roses, foam and broken wooden chairs" it will look better typed from a type writer than in notepad
>>
>>7723394
That comparison is terrible. Vinyl sounds objectively better to a digital format whilst a typewriter is worse than a laptop for writing.
>>
>>7723448
> Roses, foam and broken wooden chairs

That printed on a canvas in American Typewriter font would sell pretty well I imagine.
>>
>>7723240
Depends, what would it look like?
>>
This place is worse than /b/...
>>
>>7723507
no that's fucking gross

better:

>roses, seafoam, and broken wooden chairs
even better:
>roses, seafoam, and weathered wooden chairs
>>
If you legitimately prefer using a typewriter over a computer for whatever reason (and i can think of a few pretty decent ones), sure, go ahead. If you're doing it just to look/feel cool, kill yourself
>>
>>7723619
>(and i can think of a few pretty decent ones)
list three
>>
>>7723636
>My autism
>Computers scare me
>There is no Sonic the Hedgehog porn on typewriters, so I won't get distracted
>>
>>7723603
worse then*

fixed that for you

It forces you to not be annoyingly perfectionistic, at least on the first draft (if you wanna fix something you gotta do the whole thing over again, whereas on a computer all you gotta do is hit backspace)
It feels more satisfying, the way the keys seem to sink in nice and smooth when you press them, the chinking sound they make, to be manipulative something real and physical, marking paper with ink instead of just changing the pixels on a screen
It's a lot harder to lose even a dozen pieces of paper and have to redo part of a chapter than it is to drop your laptop and lose ALL of your work

>>
>>7723262
This.

>>7723636
A different feel, close to writing with a pen but more efficient. Since you know that you can't fix the shit in an instant, you will probably be more careful and produce something better (similar like the price of film affects filmmaking compared to digital) Also helps dealing with inner critic since you can't just change shit in an instant.

Shit, makes me want to get a typewriter now.

>drop your laptop and lose ALL of your work
>not having backups
>not being able to access the harddrive afterwards
>not having a SSD
>>
>>7723691
I thought of saying "drop your hard drive" but then you probably would have said "durr why would you be carrying your hard drive"
>>
>>7723700
Well even if you did, there are still backups and even a mechanical hard drive needs to be dropped pretty hard to be unreadable.

Though I agree with the rest of your points either way.
>>
It's not autistic but it is hipster
>>
>>7723748
that's a good thing on /mu/
>>
>>7723457
>Vinyl sounds objectively better to a digital format
Better than a fucking youtube video maybe lol
They're about the same actually, vinyl is better for guitar music and digital is better for hip hop/electronic.
>>
>>7723240
Woody Allen still uses a typewriter. So probably.
>>
>>7723240
Is it autistic to use a pen and paper?
>>
>>7723857
No. A computer can emulate a typewriter pretty perfectly, but not pen and paper.
>>
Just get a t60 and you also get to brag about the fact that you use a ten years old computer.
>>
>>7723751
/mu/ is cancer though. they'd buy a tape of car engine noises if pitchfork gave it 10 out of 10 stars
>>
>>7723891
Not really, can't emulate a piece of paper and a text document will never be close.
>>
>>7723923
If only there was a way transfer computer files to a piece of paper.
>>
>>7723843
Woody Allen also groomed his daughter.
>>
>>7723930
Having to write stuff right from first try vs printing it out are hardly comparable.
>>
>>7724047
>Having to write stuff right from first try
Because it would be so hard to emulate that part.
>>
>>7724108
Definitely given that you have the option to adjust shit, it's hard to resist, man.
>>
>>7723262

its not about what people think about you writing on a typewriter. >pretense it is about writing on a type writer. you think a certain way, feel a certain feeling, when writing through a machine. its more visceral with a part of you, a certain part ofyour genius.
>>
fuck off hipster cuck
>>
No it's just outdated
>>
>>7723816
Depends what type of hip-hop you're listening to. RTJ and DOOM or older boom-bappy stuff sound fantastic on wax.
>>
>>7723240
It's fine if you don't use it in public.
>>
>>7723240

Only if you're an old-timer more familiar with them than computers. Like Cormac McCarthy or David McCullough.
