Hello guys.
I need some help.I'm pretty desperate.
I'd like to get into reading, but the catch is, I've never read a book (only some children's books when I was younger).
Some recent events in my life have made me realize that I won't be able to rely on others to support me my entire life.
Today I bought a library card, but I didn't know wich book I should get started with, and as my social anxiety is that big I didn't ask anyone in there for help.
So. Here I am asking you guys for help. Since anonymity helps.
Sorry for any typos inm advance.

It'd help if we knew more about you.

Tell me which 3 of the tarot that might describe you and I'll suggest something.

G'luck in advance on your way to reading.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky - Notes from the Underground
Written as the memoirs of a recluse cut off from society. Expresses complex emotions and views of everyday life, including the shallowness of people.
100 pages

Jean Genet - Our Lady of the Flowers
The author wrote this while in prison. Story concerns a flight into the seedy city underworld, where the protagonist encounters thieves and killers, and evil is everywhere.

Just try a few books from the sticky

Nobody is going to have any meaningful advice until you read a few books and can tell us what you like and don't like

Poor OP

If you want 'serious' literature, the lit starter pack is a good place to start.

But since i get the impression your reading comprehension level isn't yet up to snub, start with some stuff that's considered mainstream, YA shit. Darren Shan is an easy fun read. Also Harry Potter, i assume, would probably be a book that would help get your reading levels up.

Once you've done that (or simply want to skip it and challenge yourself) go for some more difficult stuff:

Ray Bradbury

Nathaniel West

The Stranger by Camus.

Down and Out in Paris and London, by George Orwell (a fun read and not as difficult as 1984)

hope this helps
>>
>>7713526

For somebody who hasn't read a book for years on end?

1984 would be a slog to get through
>>
>>7713637
He spelt anonymity and social anxiety correctly, I don't think he's the idiot you make him out to be.
>>
>>7713667
1984 was the first book in high school I willingly read from cover to cover. It's not particularly difficult.
>>
>>7713715
Stop trying to make yourself look smart.
>>
>>7713720
I'm not. My point is that 1984 is a fairly easy read, as well as short.

How could you know more about him thanks to the tarots?

>G'luck
>glück
Never realized they were that similar.
>>
>>7713805
For the same reasons you could form a link between an English contraction and a similar German word.
>>
>>7713637
Thanks mate.
I am serious about starting to read a few hours a day since I live pretty much alone
>>
>>7713709
I learned English from cartoon network and grammar nazis on the internet.
>>
>>7713813
That's not what I did, though. The contraction simply reminded me of glück and then I realized that luck means glück.

http://entertainment.time.com/2005/10/16/all-time-100-novels/slide/all/

This is a pretty good list for a beginner. It covers most contemporary classics and is made up mostly of novels readable by a determined beginner. Just don't read Blood Meridian, The Sot Weed Factor, Infinite Jest, The Recognitions, Gravity's Rainbow, or A Dance to the Music of Time until you've read at least half the list.

Not that guy, but here's a chart for you pal. This is an alternate /lit/ core chart and I haven't seen it as often as the more "official" one. However, don't think much of it. They are all a great start but if something catches your eye, definitely check it out, as long as it interests you.

Start with Kant's critique of pure reason.

I read a couple of the people, but am not regularly at my table, so some other helpful anons were generous for the rest.
