Hey /lit/, what is the best translation of this book? Currently have the Ormsby translation and wanted to know if it's the best option before I start reading.

I'm actually a big fan of that Grossman translation, anon. I enjoyed it a great deal more than the Jarvis translation, at any rate, which was how I first read it.

Find samples of each translation and pick the one that you like best.

Is the Signet Classics edition of this good?

Seconded. Im 500 pages into that translation and I'm really enjoying it.

Anyone know anything about the Walter Starkie translation? It's the one I picked up and I love it.

Starkie sounds like an interesting (translator) dude. I read Grossman's about ten years ago. It was good, but I know it could be better. Wish I had time to read-thru another version. If I did it'd be Starkie's, I guess.

Ormsby's considered to be a pretty good translation (plus it's public domain).
It's the one I read and I've no complaints.

Thanks guys, I'll probably get a copy of the Grossman translation^
