Can anyone recommend a book dealing with loneliness? One that will make you feel like shit?
Preferably fiction, non-fiction is alright as well.

is it loneliness even when you're around people you're close to or is it loneliness from isolation?
If it's the latter then I'd read Molloy, Malone Dies and The Unnamable.

It's the latter. I've been wanting to check out the triology for ages, will definitely do now, thanks.

Norwegian Wood - le Haruki
You can make buddies with main character, Antoine Roquentin, a French writer who is horrified at his own existence.

I hope you like them. They're strange reads and they become increasingly abstract with each book. I don't even think unnamable has much punctuation and what it little it does have are for pacing.

There is an depressing-core chart here somewhere. Has some pretty good authors on it.
I recommend Ozamu Dazai and Pessoa
