Vongut
>>
>>7701698
It is literally Vonnegut

Enjoyable and stylistic, over praised by hipster plebs and irrationally hated by bitter tryhards
>>
>>7701698
Every time I see a "what/who is the x of literature," a little part of me dies.
>>
>>7701727
im so sorry.

>>7701723
> implying his early work isnt god-tier

But i'm still self aware on saying that
>>
But OP, it IS vonnegut.

i think they have similarities. don't feel like explaining myself right now though.
>>
>>7701976
le social impact isn't meaningless, but /lit/ uses it as an excuse to spout hateful opinions instead of meaningful discussion.
>>7701983
>don't feel like explaining myself
that's what
>>
>>7701952
>>7701980
Completely wrong, see me after class.
Especially you Kafka man, I bet you misuse 'Kafkaesque'
>>
>>7701736
I love Vonnegut and Anderson. In that post I'm just saying that plebs think they're undisputed classics.
>>
>>7702003
fite me irl

just imagine the stranger, directed by wes anderson, just imagine it
>>
>>7702033
appealing only because of the huge improbability of overlap in their styles
>>
>>7702029
To be fair, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic are fantastically amazing.

Okay, I lied. I'm a huge Anderson fanboy
>>
Monterroso?
>>
>>7701698
Grand Budapest Hotel was heavily influenced by Stefan Zweig
>>

Both are the epitome of style over substance so it could definitely work

IT IS NOT VONNEGUT

It's Douglas Coupland
The only reason Coupland isn't as big as Wes Anderson is because people privy to liking Anderson/Coupland generally haven't the brain cells to read.
>>
>>7701952
kafka is werner herzog
>>
>>7703058
too Canadian, too generation x
>>
I imagined The Brothers Karamazov in a Wes Anderson style the first time I read it. It was great
>>

>Anderson born 1969

Those books in moonrise kingdom looked nice

J. G. Farrell. Especially this book.

i was just thinking about a horror movie in Wes Anderson's style. Would be like a colour saturated Lynch movie

Quick, what are the essential wes anderson films? all of them? which should i watch first?
>>
>>7704018
None. Read a book instead.
>>
>>7703076
But eraserhead is the most kafkaesque film overall

Pynchon is like a darker Anderson
>>
>>7703297
That is a very funny book. Just recently finished Singapore grip, not as funny but at least the major is still in it
>>
>>7703081
You should write an essay on that reading or something
>>
Miranda July
>>
>>7704028
They're different media, capable of different things. Telling someone to read a book when they want to watch a film is like telling someone to look at a painting when they want to listen to music.
>>
>>7704327
I've always considered music the most entry level of the arts.
>>
>>7704279
Pynchon is more like a surreal tarantino
>>
>>7704018
They're basically the same thing over and over. Only his first three place somewhat emphasis of substance. The rest is pure style over subtance. His newer work is forced artsy stuff to where it just becomes uninteresting. My favorites are bottle rocket, life aquatic, and royal tenenbaums. the rest is just okay.

watch the grand budapest to get the gist of what he does, since that movie basically parodies his earlier work. then watch his good ones, its not like its niche or challenging in any way (dont let hipsters and critics tell you otherwise)
>>
>>7702256
WHAT U ON?

DONT SAY SHROOMS
>>
>>7704838
Though to elaborate, I am a picky fuck. Most people start with his newer ones and never go past them. To be more specific, his newer ones are prettier and more cohesive theme wise but have close to no substance. And they seem really forced to me because every shot is symmetrical and colorful to where it looks more like some cheap pseudo-artistic cartoon than a film.
>>
>>7702273
and rushmore is a fast and lose take on catcher in the rye.
>>
>>7703076
at least Heart of Glass.
>>
>>7704279
Lynch is too surrealist for Kafka. Werner hits the right levels of absurdism and nihilism and being foreign.
>>
>>7701698
ITT: /lit/ knows 5 authors.

Also: It's Antal Szerb.
>>
It's Salinger you plebs. Walks the fine line of comfy and emotional character drama.

What is the school bus of neo classicalism?
What is the Rick and Morty of Dubstep?

theres a difference between forcing a line of memes than asking a meme question that could spawn interesting discussion

Fade in.
A woman is smoking a cigarette, her feet promptly showing as she leans against a mirror, sitting elevated by a sink with her typewriter across from her.
The mirror reveals a man in his thirties as he approaches her. He stands beside her, and takes her cigarette.
Luke Wilson: My mother died today. LONG PAUSE. Maybe she died yesterday?

This song plays for the rest of the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46Cfrl7hMoQ

Owen Wilson: Ah jeez Mersault I mean really, ah jeez do you think those guys really mind? Stop, wait guy just stop, put the gun down, I can't focus unless the gun is on the table. Wow, I mean wow those guys sure did look upset. Do you want some wine it's fantastic I picked it up in Bordeaux. Do you think they're mad?
