What have you read of Schopenhauer already, and what have you read of other philosophers before him? There's a lot to unpack.
>>
You've read plato right senpai? And the fourfold root of sufficient reason as well?

The only way to escape will is to deny it or enter a temporary calm of aesthetic pleasure. Total denial is for saints, whereas everyone is susceptible to the temporary calm through looking at art (besides music) and being "taken in" by it.

The subject, "you," look at the object, art, and feel a brief tranquility and freedom from the will.
The object, the art, is the will objectified at a certain species level of Platonic Idea.

Schopenhauer never explains how looking at representations of will in Ideas brings about freedom from the same will.

> Schopenhauer never explains how looking at representations of will in Ideas brings about freedom from the same will.

Because each human being has an individuated will, which is the source of the individual human's particular desires, urges, strivings, boredoms - the source of that person's suffering. This manifestation of the will-in-itself is what we know in introspection, since human beings are individuals: single physical organisms, each of whose body occupies a place separate from other human bodies in other regions of space, and each of whose lifetimes occur over a given span of time that is not simultaneous with the countless spans of time before birth and after death. Space and time thus individuate natural beings, refracting the timeless, spaceless Platonic Idea (whether the Idea of Hydrogen or of Rock or of Tree or of Lion or of Human) into a multiplicity of physical individuals, each with a common essence.

A human's individual will is given motives by that human's individual intellect, from which the human's individual actions result; that is, your will strives for this or that particular thing, this or that physical object individuated in space and time. But in aesthetic contemplation of an Idea, the intellect intuits the universal essence evoked by the painting/poem/drama/building/etc. For the subjective intellect to have for its object a universal Idea, the subjective intellect must rise to the same level of universality, ceasing to be Frank's intellect or Joan's intellect or any individual person's intellect, and perceiving the Idea simply as the universal subject of knowing. This lifts the perceiver from the pains and impulses of his/her individuated will, and this temporary relase is felt as calm, disinterested (literally unwilling) contemplation. In that state, the knower apprehends a facet of existence more objectively and adequately than in the physical individuals that display its kind.
