Read the meditations and some supplemental info on rationalism. Stanford wiki is a good resource.
If you want to continue after you finish, read up on Hume's empiricism, is-ought distinction, bundle theory, problem of induction etc.
After you understand Descartes and Hume well enough, move on to Kant. Kant's political and moral philosophy are, in my opinion, absolute ass. That being said, his Epistemology is utterly and unquestionably brilliant. Read up on Synthetic/analytic apriori/aposteriori distinctions. Look at his political philosophy and morality if you must, but don't expect anything more than a fairy tale worldview.
After that you should be ready to tackle almost any modern philosophy. You'll still have to look up more obscure philosophers sometimes, and it wouldn't hurt to read some Plato and Aristotle, but you'll understand the vast majority of whats being discussed.
