After reading laudatory articles everywhere about The Secret History, I finally tried it last Christmas. Had to stop partway through. The book's terrible, the attempts at academic prowess are embarrassing, and the main characters are all interchangeable. I have no idea what all those fans are thinking.

SH is literally shite. There are some enjoyable prose sections but it never successfully marries all of it's meandering thoughts on Greeks/aesthetic beauty/ other shit, with it's characterisation, which is ultimately pretty boring. Why does Richard love that girl? Cus she is fit and like a Greek or something. LF is nice though.
