itunes has a radio feature that has streams of music spanning multiple genres. Their ambient stream is good background music

depends on your writing
if you're looking for soothing stuff then Eno is your choice
>>
Movie soundtracks, especially the Man from Snowy River or Far and Away. If there's any lyrics then I get distracted, but with Far and Away on I get so much shit done.

Classical music. Baroque, prefer it without organ. Cool jazz. Anything that goes a long time without skipping to the next song and where the music wanders around.

don't write using music unless you're specifically using it to bring about a certain mood
>>
>>7674239
If I do write with music, it's usually chill or atmospheric vidya music.
>>
>>7674239
Generally not. I used to take the Stephen King approach and write while taking stims and listening to rock, but I think I do better work with a little white or street noise and sober.

Down tempo or just ambiance shit
Start a Pandora station for" the album leaf" or "Hayling" or even Breath by telepopmusik and just let it go from there
>>
I make my own tracks when listening sometimes. Usually ill just play a few notes and then extent it into a 20 minute long drone track

Just Selected Ambient Works, right?

Some of his stuff can get a bit too active for general writing. But I fall asleep to Stone in Focus. Great artist, so much variation in his music. Wish that Soundcloud was still there.

OP, I recommend the channel Space Ambient on youtube. Some Bonobo is decently chill, as well as Eastern Sun.

I'll also listen to ambient game soundtracks by Jeremy Soule, anything he touches is relaxing and atmospheric

Why?

You sound like that autistic fuck on /ck/ who thinks that every meal you cook, even ramen while by yourself, should be enjoyed at the table with no browsing, no TV, no nothing.

Why does listening to ambient music make you a bad writer? I find myself distracted and antsy in utter silence.

its no different than being outside and listening to the bustling of people, or trees blowing in the wind, or birds chirping.

>listening to things clouds your imagination because you didnt make the music yourself its borrowed inspiration etc etc

Go with your favourite radio station, I find that if I listen to my own music I get distracted picking songs, but a station that just plays a genre helps by having one less thing to thimk about,

I often read to the Blade Runner soundtrack while reading. So soothing.

Year ago such threads were quickly dismissed with share of common sense arguments, most common one being that you are intended to read the work as the author presented, not effected by emotive effect any music might give, or other argument that you can't keep properly concentrated on on the book while also listening to music. Now I see all these seemingly unironic(except moonlight sonata one) posts on what music they listen to in a relatively long lasting thread.

What happened to you, lit.

These require active listening

Just stick to ambient (Brian Eno, Tim Hecker, Kammarheit, Biosphere)
You could try something like Sunn O))) or Earth as well
>>
Personally when I write I listen to the following artists:
World's End Girlfriend
John Zorn
Deafheaven
Acid Mothers Temple
Goldie

and a bunch of others. Might not all suit your tastes, but I'm sure some of it will.

No music REQUIRES active listening you sperg.

Are you one of those people who is afraid he'll insult the musician or w/e if he doesn't devote his complete attention when listening all the time every time?
