How did staying in England 'save' his poetry career?
Apologize in advance if I break the dubs chain.

Eliot's poetry is unique because it combined the American style of the time and the English. He said himself that his "emotional springs" come from America, but the society and people in England influenced him. At that time most of the major writers were in Europe (pound, Joyce, Hemingway, etc.).
Also, he converted to the church of England which likely wouldn't have happened in America. This had a huge influence on his later poetry. In my opinion if he didn't have this religious epiphany he would have had nothing else to write about after the hollow men. He probably would have killed himself.
Is it any surprise that he's /pol/ tier?
Fascism is a refuge for weak and lesser men.
Wasn't he gay?

Did he ever declare himself a facist? Is there any evidence to suggest he had any predeliction to facism? He was a serious Christian.

England was so desperate for a national artist that they were willing to prop up and promote a second rate American one. By remaining in Britain and eventually becoming a British subject, he secured a reputation. He was being fawned over while the English were downplaying Ulysses, to give you an idea of the artistic atmosphere in that country at the time.
His work appeals to the Brits because it exhausts and exploits largely romantic sentiments about that country, but anyone familiar with British poetry sees straightway from the tone of his work that he is not a Brit.
Pretty sure Bertrand Russell cuck'd everyone
