>have loads of great ideas
>don't want to actually use them before I can develop my skills to an adequate level
>nothing to write about, so I can't develop my skills

How do I get out of this vicious circle?

Write short stories and then put them in a drawer. Don't worry, you'll be able to revisit ideas later.

I used to be like this, where I'd have a really good idea that I'm saving for some larger project so I hold off on talking about it in like some story for uni or something.

But fuck man, fuck that seriously. If you're gonna write something that matters for anything, make it the best fucking thing you've ever written, you'll find you're so much more determined to make it great if you don't have any "back up" ideas and the greatness of the starving artist starts to flow.

What this guy said. You are never going to get anywhere ever unless you take the best thing you have and give it your all. You know what? In ten years time you will realise the idea wasn't that great and you have new and better ideas to work with.

Exactly. Waiting to write is the worst thing you can do because it's like youre telling yourself you'll never have an idea as good as the one you did when you were a fucking junior in college
>>
Keep a journal, write short stories and/or poems and/or essays, read a lot. If you're tired for subject matter try writing about something from a newspaper or something, or short descriptions of places you've been to.
>>
My issue is that writing takes up so much of my energy I end up becoming autistic.
>>
Use them, you'll soon realise that they weren't as good as you thought, how to make them better and also that you can reuse ideas, it doesn't wear them out.
