I have yet to actually read any. From what I understand they're mostly targeted towards young-adults, so I'm guessing they're pretty much garbage.

some are garbage some are not,these days ligth novels are know as light novels for its simplistic prose but it does not automatically mean it is shit,there is some good storys to be found ,problem is they are heavily tied with the otaku culture,so if you not into the whole culture think you are probably going to hate light novels
