When was the last time you bought a physical book/played for a book?
I can't even remember since I got my kindle, I only torrent all books. Its easier and better than real books. more eco friendly and less bulkier.
I honestly don't get why people still buy physical books.

I bought a house with a library (flyover country) and have been filling it up slowly. Last book was Carpentiers Kingdom of this World which had an excellent condition mark, and which was filled with notes. I bought from alibris.
>I honestly don't get why people still buy physical books
Mostly because the machine I read ebooks with also has an endless internet porn. Moreover, there's a sense of space associated with progressing through a set of physical pages that isn't nearly as satisfying when done with an ebook.
Books are also beautiful objects. I also love how they smell. Moreover i read a lot of old books wich are difficult no find online.
Excuse my poor english

>live in a flyover state
>have an entire room devoted to my office and library
>slowly filling up the shelves my carpenter brother in law made me as a wedding present.
>have a few books arriving today via amazon prime today to add to my collection.
Cityfags will never know this comfy feel.
It feels exciting to see how many pages you've read so far, to be honest.
Plus, you can display them in a shelf and make everyone notice the literally asshole you are.
I'm not going to pretend I don't enjoy the feeling that someone may see and care about what I'm reading but I also genuinely can not concentrate on ebooks. I have a tough enough time concentrating as it is, I'm hopeless for some reason when it comes to reading from a screen
I honestly would use ebooks if I could but I'm unfortunately unable to, and I save enough money on the ungodly amount of music I pirate that I feel alright about paying for books
I prefer 'real books', I find it's a better experience. I am also not poor, so I can enjoy my life.
About 2 hours ago when I pressed Buy with 1 Click about 4 times on Amazon.
>>7605432
Same.
I have an ebook and I don't use it. I love physical books.
>>7605399
Did you invest in a proper chair?

I buy used books, so I never spend more than $6 for one. I haven't bought any in a while; last major haul was last year when I bought 20 from a library sale. Paid like $7 for all of em, some of them very nice hard covers.
>>7605456
Library fetish thread?
>>7605456
>>already filled up the shelves i had imported from spain with one day's interest payments
Wait what
Unless you're in mainland Europe I don't understand why you'd import shelves from Spain. I don't think they even have any distinct hardwood trees and they're not really known for their woodworking.
About a week and a half ago I bought pic related at a local secondhand store. In general I'll just download what I want to read online but I do prefer having a physical book to read.
>>7605475
Not him but it would obviously be for Andalusian wood working and design.
>>7605339
Just now for Kafka's collected works. I was able to justify it because
>cheap
>hardcover
>I'll probably read it a second time
>looks good in the bookcase

>>7605339
Physical books sound better, they have a warmth when you play them.
>>7605478
Good taste my friend. Enjoy the Gogol
>>7605640
lmao
>>7605339
I have a lot of disposable income, so I always buy my books from a local used book store. It makes me feel good to support the business; it's the only one like it in my area, which is fairly large.
>>7605475
not sure my interior decorator recommended it. i honestly don't know much about it.
Last week.
>>7605669
That said, I actually just purchased my books for this semester from Amazon. They're getting here Friday. I would have gone and searched the book store but I wanted to take advantage of my Prime membership, acquired through my University.
>>7605674
You sound like a man of fine taste :^)

I mainly buy poetry collections to read on public transport and give to friends when I am finished. A sweet 2nd hand bookstore opened up pretty close to where I live. Bought slaughterhouse 5 in november for a dollar. It had a hideous cover and has since been lost. Bless Billy Pilgrim and his children's crusade. I do most of my reading on eBook as I move around a bit. Keen to get my box o' books out of storage soon. I have a really nice copy of Ulysses that I hope still smells fresh and hasn't yellowed. Worst books I have bought are those orange $10 penguin classics. They are remarkably dull additions to any shelf.
>>7605339
Unamuno's book Del sentimiento trágico de la vida (the original; yes I'm Spanish).
A few days ago. I can read at work, but since I'm surrounded by other people's sensitive information, I can't bring any electronics.
boxing day, got The enemy by charlie higson

>live outside library

The Hobbit 3 days ago
I spent $11 on a used copy of short stories incl. shipping from Amazon about 30 minutes ago. I recently decided to stop downloading free ebooks, for ethical reasons. It's a good incentive to read what I have.
I also make frequent use of my local library's Interlibrary Loan system to avoid paying for expensive academic books - it's a great resource.
Just received this purchase from Amazon. I buy books all the time. Weirdos
>>7607932
Goddamnit you got me excited for a second, I thought there was finally a reprinting of Women and Men out. You bastard.

yeah published in 93. It was a library book in North Carolina, based on the call number, and the checkout list is totally empty with a "discarded" stamp on it.
I have no idea why it hasn't been republished
>>7607942
Those are custom hardwood and they are 100% full.

uh-huh.
also, nice collection of textbooks and encyclopedias. and's it's super-cool to have a framed picture sitting on the shelf blocking some books. that really reinfoces your how much attention you pay to what's on those shelves.

Wow a living room.

Im surprised that in a forum full of aspiring writers nobody has said that they buy books to support authors.
I buy the Booker short list every year and books off the long list of authors that I have previously read and enjoyed.
Apart from that I buy from and sell to the local second hand bookstore. They are more expensive than you would otherwise find online, but its much nicer to look around a shop filled with books than it is to browse Amazon etc...
got this in the mail earlier today. quite pleased.
>>7605339
>more eco friendly
your kindle was made in a fucking sweatshop and the power to run it likely comes from fossil fuels
meanwhile I buy all my books second hand from charity shops
>>7605467
>"LOVE"
What is wrong with you?
>>7608507
Yeah, houses and land are much cheaper in flyover states, outside of large cities.
>>7608519
I've always thought about moving to America, usually only considered coastal places (other than California) but maybe I'll look into it.
There are much less ebooks than there are real books. If you want a certain translation for example you would probably have to buy the physical copy.
>>7608334
>Im surprised that in a forum full of aspiring writers nobody has said that they buy books to support authors.
Well, they're dead.
>>7608193
Are you fucking retarded?
Can you only buy a bookshelf if you have enough books to fill it at 100% capacity?
Bookshelves look like shit when they're all jammed in, not to mention possibly damaging the books.
Who fucking gives a shit if they're not full.
>>7608451
What's that?
>>7607932
I know I'm super late, but who'd you buy it from? I mean, what seller?
>>7609088
It's in really good condition as well. There's no way anyone has read this copy unless they ironed it afterwards or something
>>7608334
>aspiring writers
speak for yourself faggot i have no such aspirations and look down at 99.99% of people who do
>>7609134
edgy
>>7609127
Weird, I don't remember them being an option when I bought mine. I pulled the trigger a few days ago (after having it in my cart for a month) after reading Plus and Cannonball and realizing I needed 1k more pages of McElroy in my life.
>>7609163
What's Cannonball like? I really want to read that one soon
>>7609314
Have you ever trailed off in thought, then felt yourself falling back into reality, as you seem to regain consciousness from some far-off field; and suddenly you see yourself in the middle of a boschian landscape rendered in pointillist chaos, where every point in space and time is a mass of intersecting lines to form a whole?
Whenever I've tried to explain to people how I feel when this happens to me, they look at me with confusion, with that closed-off look in their eyes. Cannonball is where McElroy's art has opened up to me, where every sentence seem to be a continuation of my thought. I hate to be so abstract or romantic, but that is truly how I feel.
