I've read over 50 books and as a seasoned veteran all I have to say is... I quit.
Nothing will ever surpass The Brothers Karamazov.
This is the pinnacle of art in its purest form.
>50 books
Are you insinuating that that is a high number of books to have read?
>>7595392
>read P&V translation
*long sigh*
What the fuck happened that made the quality of this board drop so far?
So. Much. Fucking. This.
I've read like 60 books in my time (yeah yeah I'm a bit of a reading nerd) but Dosty was just FUCKING EPIC.
Purest bait I've ever seen. 2/10 for making me reply.
>>7595400
The quality of this board is same as it was before. Are you half asleep?
>>7595417
>2015 is 'before'
I don't think there's any direct connection, but the board definetely took a plunge around the time of the first Legacy of Totaltarianism
>>7595417
jesus, are we really still pretending IJ is no.1?

STOP POSTING THE WRONG CHART FAGGOTS
>>7595447
That's still the wrong chart
>>7595392
Iktf op and I'm pretty seasoned with classic literature, some of my other readings include "the shining" and even "lord of the flies" (really dense thought provoking literature is my fortay but I enjoy literature film and music more for avant guard prose and expression than story)
>>7595447
Fuck you wacko. Votes does matter!
>>7595402
>60 books
>muh I'm so well read
That's acceptable if you're still an underclassmen in high school.
>>7595555
I want to know the list of 10 good quality books you've read.
>>7595558
I've read infinite meme and gravity's rainbow five times each
I'm so well read :^)
>>7595447
It's literally the exact same chart, just without votes under each title.
>>7595417
wow i sure see a lot of female writers here good job not buying into the Old White Men thingy /lit/
>>7595392
>tfw i wanna make fun of you for only having read 50 books, but i've read just as much (little)

Reminds me of the time I myself was fifteen.
My Goodreads lists me at 80 books (half of those are manga tho) and I can say this with confidence, I AGREE.
It really is a masterpiece, I was thinking of buying the original Russian copy just to support the author.
>>7595564
>gravity's rainbow five times
Implying you understand it any better
>>7596056
Book buyiers like you really inspire me
>>7596082
I read GR twice and I feel I understand it completely with a few exceptions of individual passages that trail off into abstraction or reference too much mystic shit I don't get.
If you'd stop memeing and actually read it you'd see it's not actually that confusing.
This thread disgusts me and I am appalled that I have been speaking with dillettantes who haven't even broken triple digit book counts on the literature section of an Australian aboriginal heritage forum fucking Christ
If you don't have at least 300 books in your personal library you do not belong here PLEBIANS GET OUUUUT ROOOOO
>>7595399
which translation would you suggest?
>>7597297
I liked the English one :) but all translations are good!
>>7595555
I guess sarcasm might be a bit beyond you
>>7595392
I've read two books just today and feel like I don't know shit about literature. This is pretty normal for me on days I don't work. How can you feel so superior and knowing if you've only read a the equivalent to a month's reading? You are smug, sir.
>>7595392
>boring ass monk chapter
>faggot aloysha whining all the goddamn time
>dumb bimbo bitches EVERYWHERE
Literally the worst book I have ever fucking read.
>>7597526
2/10 nice try reddit
>>7595392
I know the feeling brother. The Brothers Karamazov was the first book I read a few years back when I got back into reading and since then, nothing has surpassed it in any aspect save for maybe comedic, which I will give to Don Quixote. I challenge anyone to propose a superior work of literature.
>>7595392
>I've read over 50 books
This is obviously bait, but to be fair, I estimate I've read over 700 books since high school (I'm 30 now), and I have to agree that Brothers Karamazov might be the pinnacle.
>>7597297
*Magarshack
>>7597526
Alyosha is the single greatest fictional character in history
>>7597571
The Divine Comedy. Dosto is great, one of the best novelists sure but he only gets so much praise because of his appeal to young people. Shakespeare, Dante, Tolstoy, Homer, Milton, among others, are all better.
>>7597964
don't Alyosha and prince Myshkin have Down's?
>>7597964
nah
Smerdyakov is far better
>intellegent
>nihilistic
>sarcastic sence of humor
>appriciates european values
>>7597964
100% Marty Stu man. Christ-imitation characters are dull.
>>7598261
There are a few moments where he questions his faith though. Plus, he's in love with Lise even though she's obviously emotional unstable and anti-christian. I think he's comforted that someone shares the skepticisms that he keeps repressed inside him. He's not even offended when she describes her dream of killing a baby with a brick and laughing,
>>7595392
OP maybe if you were to rephrase that as 'this is the pinnacle of literary art in its purest form' to refer specifically to literature then maybe i'd agree
but
>literature
>the pinnacle of art in its purest form
lmaoing rn m8 pls
About 200 pages in now and I have to say the writing is pretty bad (at least the style) and the philosophical bits are heavy handed and go really no where, a lot of digressive info dumping, but the story has me hooked and there are some great characters....looking forward to the rest, despite the sloppy writing
>>7600710
nice meme
This is the only book I've read in the past five years that I've just given up on part way through. Partly because I had to read it in like a week for class but
