check out some of the more unique and iconiclastic but perhaps less magnificent writers in the canon (kerouac, hunter s, calvino, tom wolfe)
don't be afraid to read some books by ladies
try to find some favorite poems and poets. maybe start with shakespeare's sonnets -- those are never not the greatest -- and john keats
