My sister wants to buy some books. She's 18. Kinda a tumblr/feminist type (really just says shit to be cool in front of her friends I think.) This may be a good chance to introduce her to something that's not Wincest fan fiction. Any suggestions?
On Women by Schopenhauer
Post pics of her feet and we'll tell you.

I have none of her feet, but I can get a couple nudes if you want.
Your sister is a fucking cunt and I hope she gets shot.
Now, give her the metamorphosis, shit never fails.
This or Blood Meridian. That should sufficiently crush her spirits and awaken her to the harsh reality of human nature.

Now why in the world would you want your 18yo sister to NOT want to interested in wincest? Seems really counter-productive anon.
Serious answer though, you should probably introduce her gradually so star with something soft like Italo Calvino "On a winter's night a traveler" or Milan Kundera "The Book of Laughter and Forgetting" or perhaps even Goethe "Faust". Basically you have to get the hooks in her first before she can ascend the mountain. If you force books on her that are too challenging it'll be off-putting. Definitely not Schopenhauer if you want her respect ever again in this life lol
Vonnegut. He's perfect for entry level. Simple and sweet prose, ironic, relatable themes. From there, you can see if she is ready for deeper lit.
Alternatively, go with other true and true classics like The Great Gatsby or The Catcher in The Rye. Start from these basics and you can nearly go anywhere from there.

then she might blindly dismiss anything written by a straight white male. it might be easiest to give her some female authors, if only because that might reduce her chances of rejecting them outright. The Handmaid's Tale or The Bell Jar are both pretty good.

Nah, give her some Emily Bronte or a white guy who tells really really good stories like Rudyard Kipling. Give her worse and worse white authors until she turns her socialism national

In my experience, girls tend to not like Gatsby, I guess since it mostly involves rich white dude problems. Definitely agree about Vonnegut though. Murakami works as well

There is no point buying a book for someone that doesn't want to read it. It will go unread. Unless she asks you specifically to pick a book for her don't bother.

My 20 year-old Tumblr sister loves Gatsby. I think Tumblr-type girls will love anything high school-tier because it's easy to get a "deeper" perspective on them, which makes the girls feel smart.
I think The Stranger could be an easy read thatll either satisfy her seemingly pseudo-intellectual curiosity or actually get her into the hobby of reading itself. If she hasn't read it herself for highschool or something though.
My "first" book was probably Pedro Paramo, I just wanted to read more for I forget the reason and with that book I thought to myself I actually enjoyed what makes a story, characters, themes, and then along the way that turned into simply appreciating prose itself.
