Michael Hudson is a good place if you want to get into current economic issues.

HAHAHA
>>7537671
Thomas Sowell just pushes his conservative agenda in this book; it's pretty shit.
>>7537671
That book is pure ideology. Don't trust a basic economics book that doesn't start with multivariable calculus.
Wealth of Nations - Smith
Principles of Political Economy - Ricardo
A Monetary History of the United States - Friedman
General Theory - Keynes
Portfolio Theory - Markowitz
Misbehaving - Thaler
Capital in the 21st Century - Piketty

>If it doesn't involve math, then it is invalid and worthless
>Being this pretentious
Sure is basic undergrad-level understanding of economics in here.
>>7537937
This is actually usually true in the current field of economics senpai

Want me to start naming specific academic papers then? Contribute something to the thread then. OP clearly asked about books, not papers. Most economics books are written at and easily understood at the undergrad level.

>Want me to start naming specific academic papers then?
>implying you're capable of grasping all the material in academic papers, which are solely written with the intention of being read by only a few other PhDs
Academic papers aren't written for the masses, champ.

I can list a bunch of blogs from economists, which will probably serve you better than a bunch of meme books from the likes of Marx and the like.

>I can list a bunch of blogs from economists, which will probably serve you better than a bunch of meme books from the likes of Marx and the like.
Why are you telling me that you can instead of actually doing it?
Marginalist economics is just a bunch of scholastic mental masturbation

read Veblens 'The Theory of Business Enterprise'

>Solely written for the intention of being read by only a few other PhDs
Well you've clearly never done any research or had anything published in a reputable journal. Your undergrad pretentiousness is showing, mate.

Are you retarded?
For the very beginners
For the micro aspect
>>7538351
>people still think there's a difference between micro and macro
>>7538379
Pls explain how there isn't
>>7538402
Not that guy, but technically there isn't. Macro is just a term used to approach certain variables, like production, prices, labor, etc...
Nonetheless, these variables are studied under a microfundation and a super simplification. So when you study macro you are studying the behavior of society if all the agents involved were equals (this assumption can be relaxed but like to two kinds of agents or three if you are insane), which can be normalized to 1 single agent.
So, if macro says you have just one agent, your are actually doing micro.

>Wealth of Nations - Smith
>Principles of Political Economy - Ricardo
>A Monetary History of the United States - Friedman
>General Theory - Keynes
Pffft This is like reading Hippocrates for medical reference. I'm tired of this meme.
>Portfolio Theory - Markowitz
Why would a normal person who is just interested in economics read this? I mean, I guess it's useful if they knew anything about quadratic optimization or something...
>Capital in the 21st Century - Piketty
Great book, wether you disagree or not with him.
>>7538422
>So, if macro says you have just one agent, your are actually doing micro.
Yeah, what you just said is all correct, every book on micro/macroeconomics has that written in its first chapter. They are both subfields of a larger field, so yeah, they are based on same principles and even use some same variables etc.
But at the same time, each branch covers some aspects that are not included (and don't have their equivalent) in the other and therefore it's no surprise they are being studeid separately.

>vain grad student/phD calls undergrad pretentious
fucking seriously?
Amongst people from all walks of life that are routinely labelled arrogant ie bankers, the rich, men of power, insecure persons of small stature, the french,12 year old winning his first trophy in a competitive sport, the members of the chinese politburo or hobbyist astronomers the one group that constantly surpasses all expectations are indeed the academics who freshly obtained their PhDs and constantly try to make other people notice their titles.
Academics are dorks.
