Not sure if this is the right board but are any of the Japanese light novels actually good? I'm interested in them but not sure if they're actually worth reading.
you'll probably get a better response on /a/

Spice and Wolf, only light novel I have actually bought. Thought of getting Guin Saga too because of the influence on Berserk but they haven't published many in English.

none of the ones with any actual literary merit are translated desu

Yeah I've been searching online for ones that aren't some kid getting magic powers or playing an online game and it seems like there aren't any.
No. Unless you want to acquire it as entry-level reading material to improve your Japanese skills, it's haram. Read foreign authors translated.
the only translated one worth reading would be Spice and Wolf.
Light novels are capable of having excellent stories but suffer from an overload of tropes that you find in anime and manga

there are literally only manga in your picture. there's nothing worth reading unless you know japanese, now fuck off.

Hakomari
Mushoku Tensei
Index
Spice & Wolf
Owari no Chronicle
Overlord
The only worthwhile ones that are translated as far as I have gathered.

All you need is Kill, Spice & Wolf, even Haruhi are decent in japanese, but they don't translate too well into english.

Also Fate/Zero, but you probably need to read Fate/SN before.
