You literally have no chance in life. Why don't you kill yourself? You're too dumb to have any serious prospects in life.

Goddamn, I bet you read Inifnite Meme and Pynchon and thought they were worth while.

I've met more depressed liberal arts majors than depressed STEM majors. That's not to brag or say that lib arts majors are smarter, but just that they don't live in as much a fairyland as you'd think.

I wasn't implying that it was a college degree. I'm wondering why you'd want to spend your time on a literature board filled with people passionate about the liberal arts when you have no respect for liberal arts students and what they're studying (presumably the books you read in your spare time).

English majors do cultural analysis, if anything. Anyone can read a book, but not anyone can be a historian and anthropologist.

People not smart enough for STEM become historians and anthropologists.

You seem very unhappy. If you had pursued what you really wanted rather than what your parents expected of you maybe you'd be happier and wouldn't resort to such insults. :^)

I'm communication and film studies.

They don't actually have to learn to be teachers, that makes a huge difference. I teach college currently but come from a secondary educational background, shit is so different.

>>
>>7506155
I think that's part of it, but this professor is just a general dick. He picks favorites, inserts his own philosophy any chance he gets, structures the class in a way where all the course work is due on the last day of class. Plus he claims to mark the last essays and take home finals harder just because the average is to high. Plus he is a Hobbesian, which doesn't really make him an asshole, but it should give you an idea of what he is like.
>>
>>7506182
Haha yeah sounds like a bit of a prick. Lowering test grades because the average is too high. Shit, I give bumps even if I think the test wasn't hard for anyone who actually read the literature and studied. Should have failed 1/3rd of my British Lit students this semester, ah the shame of being too lenient.
>>
>>7506191
It's funny. Like he would be a great guy to grab a beer with, but not to learn from. Do you teach lit in general or just British?

>>
>>7505846
It's all good man, if you show that sweet initiative by being in clubs and stuff, maybe having your own side projects, it'll make up for grades. Grades only become a primary concern for employers when they have nothing else to judge you on. And for me, personally, being busier keeps me from slacking off. so all the clubs and stuff might actually indirectly help your grades.

Environmental Science and philosophy double major. It's a light STEM degree with a manageable enough course load that allows me to double in the humanities without issue. My classes are useful, interesting, and my peers are always pleasant to be around. Already have a job lined up as a junior that pays 65k starting, 80-90k potential if I want to do overtime. I'm just working hard for the GPA because I might decide to go to officer school in the navy instead.

What uni? I do quarter's at WWU. I had a pretty good quarter with straight A's. I was worried about my creative nonfiction class until I ended up being one of the stronger writers in there. I always hate feeling like that because writing is so subjective but everyone's work was all so dull.
>>
>>7507719
University of Toronto. I would be more skeptical of objective measures of success too if I weren't a mess of neuroses.
Seeing how average everyone else is has helped me feel less threatened by people who actually are better than me, though.
>>
>>7507793
are you doing the creative writing class with rawi hage next semester?
>>
>>7507808
No, unfortunately I can't. I'm only first year and you need a certain number of credits to take 300 series english courses. It's a Y course though isn't it? I was planning to take it next year.
I heard on this board that Hage is teaching The Canadian Novel this coming term. You didn't mean that, did you?
>>
B writing
B- programming
C+ calculus
D+ chemistry

4 weeks from the end of the semester I got hugely depressed and completely stopped turning in literally everything. Stopped going to class too. I didn't study for my finals either but i had straight As (except for chem at that point) so I knew most of the content and passed all of my finals.

I don't really know what is going on anymore. I think I've lost it, like mentally. I think academia is a joke and I've fallen into nihlism, but the bad kind of nihlism
