It really is. I really liked the almost homosexual relationship that Ishmael and Queequeg had from the very beginning.

This whole board is one big ad for Infinite Jest.
>>7479477
May be cause Infinite Jest is one of the best written books fucking ever.
Too many books to choose a singular favourite. The Necronomicon is getting my love yet again tonight though, for my second reading.

absolute shit taste my friend
that book is supposed to be a meme
It just doesn't get any better.
not to call them my favorites but my most frequent rereads are The Anatomy of Melancholy by Burton and Life of Johnson by Boswell, long as they both are. They're hella comfy and make me laugh nearly every page. The Bible is another book I love to read frequently, you can skip nearly anywhere and hit pure content every time.
desu as much as I dislike DFW I have reread IJ at least 6 times ever since I first read it, always once every few months or years. I've purchased and given away many copies to friends. comfy/10

If i skip the whale trivia am I missing anything? I tried to read this book when I was like 16 to seem super deep and actually started liking it but that whaling info was such a slog and I can't even remember when I put it down I think they had just rescued some lads stuxk at sea or something.
>>7479539
Yeah I know everyone praises it way too much on this board but to say it's not without any merit and just a meme is pretty stupid.
>actually defending this meme of a book
>>7479413
its boring lol
>>7480509
No it isn't.
Probably this.
lord fouls bane
Blood Meridian

This was one my favs for a long time, I was lucky enough to have had read it for a college class. Rec any other calvino? I see a lot of his published stuff are collections of short stories but another novel would be good.
Pic related, also my favorite winchester. Ties together history, politics, anthropology and above all, for me, geology while still being succinct (unlike The History of the Medieval World that I just picked up which was too encompassing to be any good)

Please stop falling for obvious bait
Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun.
>inb4 sci-fi
>actually I don't know if /lit/ hates sci-fi these days
>>7481266
I really like The Baron in the Trees, its a real nice novel
It is probably my shit taste, but god damn I'm starting my 3rd read-through soon

You kidding m8? Laughed at loud several times through that section. The absurdity of that cataloging is one of the hidden gems of that GAN. It's not just about the philosophical allegory.
either this or Karamazov Bros. (karamazov world 2 )
It was my first "adult" book. I read it when I was in 6th grade, I think. Still love it.
