What books can help /lit/ reconcile its Christian faith with its ultra-right wing values?
>>
>>7435509
/lit/ doesn't have a singular faith or political values. We're not a monolith.
>>
>>7435509

>/lit/ is in a state of consensus
You probably liked The Road and Old Country, too

I would argue that any institution which busies itself with ethics must ultimately care about politics.

Is there a board in which theological discussion is on topic in its own right?

I mean, not in a literary sense such as analysis of the way the Bible is written, but in actual theological theory?
>>
>>7435641
Haha good luck in your endeavors fuck face
>>
>>7435641
You can discuss theological theory in context of some literature, like Kierkegaard or the Bible, here.
>>
>>7435644
Rude desu

I just think that theological thought in and of its own right can be a very interesting topic.

>>7435649
I know that, I meant in reference only to itself.
>>
>>7435657
I wouldn't be for it here. /his/ probably allows it but you'll get a mixture of some serious response and crusader roleplay + /pol/ #bantz

The one where you realize statements of religious belief are more declarations of tribalist affiliations than they are ethical doctrines.
>>
>>7436729

tribal cohesion is really important and part of the ethical dimension. It's part of the sentiment of having a home, belonging to a community, and having a history...

instead of feeling displaced and like a stranger in a strange land
>>
>>7436729
This. It must take an immense amount of delusion to devote one's life to theology and apologetics when this is so plainly apparent

What do you mean reconcile? Christianity is innately conservative, at least in a social sense. That's the default state. The liberalism espoused by Protestantism is recent.

What the fuck are you going on about?
>>
>>7436777

>it's ideology, not an ideology!

and?
>>
>>7436798
glad you agree that it was a worthless collection of words.
>>
>>7436804

saying something is "ideology" is quite worthless as a critique.
>>
>>7436804
So is this, and this, and this, ad infinitum. Worth is based on your own necessities, anon. And you have served mine. For that: thanks–!

Christianity was never meant to be a majority religion. Mad practiced and preached in the scriptures, it was for a minority who was to live communally and avoid becoming entangled with worldly intrigues. Christianity dies when it becomes a state religion. What we see the catholic and Protestant churches doing now is just Judaism for Europeans.
>>
>>7436866
Yup, that's why Christ said to go and baptize all nations. You dummy.
>>
>>7436884
>>7436866

You're both right, acthuuallly...

Christianity can't be implemented as a political mechanism for a State like Islam can. Christianity just doesn't have the legal and economic policies necessary for such a thing. But it can and tries to spread itself to the citizenry of every nation.
>>
>>7436897
>can't be implemented as a political mechanism
Even though it has...
>>
>>7436897
Pretty much yeah, but that does not equal "Christianity was never meant to be a majority religion," which is retarded and completely ignores the evangelical element which has been there since the beginning.
>>
>>7436905
Unpack what you mean by this. The Church has owned extensive property which it administered like a secular state. It has also run its own courts, and deeply influenced the legal systems of Christian states. But religious law as being all-encompassing and identical with the state, a la some strands of Islam? I don't think this has ever been a mainstream idea in Christianity.
>>
>>7435509

There is no hope. Christianity is the grandmother of Bolshevism.
>>
>>7435509
>/lit/
>ultra-right wing values
>any values at all
>>
>>7436912
Trying to spread the faith doesn't mean expecting to convert everybody everywhere. Truly coming to Christ was supposed to be hard, and nominal Christians are called a stumbling block in scripture. Even Revalations foresees Christians being a minority when the end times come.

Coming to Christ is a far more personal and radical experience than just growing up with Christian as your default setting, and most professing Christians are just going through the motions.
>>
>>7436905
>Even though it has...

In terms of distributing justice it can't be. For example it has no punishments or ways to deal with crime and sin, everything is left to God. Of course people will fill in the blanks and just make shit up though...

For economics it doesn't say anything either. Islam has an extensive tax and currency system, it outlines how to punish criminal offenses, it says who inherits what and how judges should deal with tons of cases...

People forced Christianity into the political-state sphere but it never had any grounds to be function as a state religion.
>>
It's easy: Forgiveness.

No matter what is done, you're forgiven (if you're a Christian).
>>
>>7436984
This. The whole catholic scholastic tradition was all about justifying the church's huge power, wealth and dogmas in the face of scripture that describes communists and penniless vagabonds as the ideal Christians.
>>
>>7437001
You wanna know how I know you've never read any Scholastic philosophy?
>>
>>7436829

I only do it before an exclamation mark to distance myself from the implied genuine excitement, despite it actually being genuine. And it's actually more of an affectation–something I think we both agree autistic people aren't too fond of employing–than anything else. Anyway, the em dash is arguably the most versatile punctuation mark and therefore incredibly dope–! Just ask Nietzsche or Joyce or Gaddis.
