>>
not very if you understand the basics of the real/symbolic etc

zizek is literally a comedian, he writes enterntaiment for people who know philosophy
>>
WHY would you read a book about Hegel wiothut reading Hegel?
>>
What /is/ the difference between the real and the symbolic?

I mean really
>>
`>>7404847
you can talk about the symbolic

it's hard to explain
>>
>>7404844
I was under the impression it was a primer to Hegel's work with some insights to Zizek's own philosophy as well.
>>
>>7404874
man /lit/ is a cringe-fest today

it's the complete opposite of a primer

he's pretty much forwarding a brand new interpretation of hegel that responds to and rejects all of the previous and current work being done on hegel

if you're planning to read this to pretend like you understand hegel, you're going to make a fool out of yourself, because no only will you not understand a lick of what he's saying--though you will swear you "get" the pop culture references!--but you'll be forwarding a unique and unorthodox view of hegel that bears little resemblance to all hitherto scholarship
>>
>>7404874
Trust me, I've studying Hegel for some time now and after reading a few parts of this Zizek book it only made things worse.
>>
>>7404874
Not that the book is bad mind you, it's just that Zizek talks about so much things at the same time that if you don't already have a good grasp of things it is a bit too much. Pretty what this guy said: >>7404902.
>>
>>7404874
Jean Hyppolite, I think, is a good place to start with secondary literature on Hegel.
>>
>>7404919
>>7404916
>>7404902
>>7404906

So should I start with Genesis and Structure of Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit", then Phenomenology of Spirit, then the Zizek? Or would it be better to just trudge on through the Zizek using the other two books as reference.
>>
>>7405064
Neither forget Zizek completely nor be to hasty to read him, focus yourself on Hegel for a while.
>>
>>7405082
Thanks! Off to the library I go.

All of Hegel or just a few selected texts? I don't want to be a dilettante, but I'd hate to read something that is without value to me.
>>
>>7404874
>zizek
>own philosophy
That doesn't exist

Are you still here? Anyway, you can start with the Phenomenology, but be aware that everyone has trouble getting it it at their first reading, so don't give up.
>>

I picked up the Philosophy of History, History of Philosophy, Phenomenology of Mind, and The Hegel reader. I think I'll start with the reader to get a nice overview of everything that's going on.

Shame they didn't have his book on aesthetics. Art has become incredibly interesting.

Might you provide some texts on the subject?

I've no interest in practicing psychoanalysis, but this seems as fine an introduction as any other. Thanks!
