Has anyone actually learned a language just to read books that are in that language?

sometimes jokes work better in the native language. Sometimes it doesn't matter.

You will improve if you translate into your language however I couldn't see why writing/sketching original works wouldn't be equally as helpful, perhaps more efficient even.
