Your professors are retards. Both Oxford and Cambridge have massive endowments and the PhDs are standard in Britain because we don't waste research students' time forcing them to do two more years of taught causes. We don't need to because we aren't retards who have undergrads do 'liberal arts' courses without specialisation.

Undergrad at Oxbridge is respected, but the PhD programs are a joke, even within the university itself. >>7396006 is partially right, but wrong on that point.
It's probably one of the best you can do in the UK, but you'd be much better off, if you are American, doing an American PhD program
>tfw Cambridge interview in two weeks
Get fucked, retard. Oxbridge literally interview 80% of applicants, failing to get an interview is actually an incredible achievement.

Clare
>>7396202
Clare is a beautiful college. I was very happy with Emma but I used to walk to the University Library through Clare all the time and I think if I had to pick any other college it would be Clare. My all time favourite lecturer, John Robertson, was also a fellow there.
Not even an interview OP? That must suck
All universities are shite senpai
even so everyone went to oxford or cambridge or an ivy here so you should probably leave man

British PhDs don't help much for American academic jobs, mainly because of the teaching experience involved in a US PhD. If you want an American academic job, do a British MA and you'll increase your chances of being accepted to a top program. Do a prestigious one like the full-fee Oxford MA.

Cambridge PhDs sometimes teach undergraduates in one-on-one supervisions and in some seminars. I had a friend who did Part III in CompSci and he was even supervising then. They aren't purely conducting research.

True, but in my PhD program, I taught six self-designed classes, was a TA for three semesters, got to lecture large groups of students, did detailed peer collaborations, and received formal pedagogical training. Job applicants straight out of a UK PhD can't compete with this level of experience in the US academic job market. That said, there are plenty of strengths to a Cambridge PhD and Simon Jarvis is one of my personal heroes.

I just need to get the PVP mechanics of the MLG down and then I'll be ready.

Not applying to Edinburgh

Same thing at Oxford. One of my teachers in a small part of the first-year course was a PhD student who was actually American
>not being scottish
>not going to university while living at home
>not being both of those things so you save shitloads of money
>not doing the above things while getting really great school grades
OK, let's be srs, I didn't put any thought in to my choice and I hated it. I'd rather be in a bit of debt and going to edinburgh / st andrews, or tonnes more and somewhere in england, but so it goes.
