My girlfriend only reads young adult books like harry/twillight/hunger etc.

What is a good book gift to gift her as a stepping stone to some more "real" literature?
>>
I have no idea
>>
i have a stupid girlfriend who only reads that shit too, but i've been suggesting her to read the wheel of time series. idk. opposites attract. get her to cook or suck your dick more or something while you handle the intelligent side of the relationship
>>
maybe Hemingway, that halfnasal whine of any of his characters will ultimate be counteracted by the works´ literariness.

She sucks my cock just fine and While im the better cook of the two this is not where i came for in the thread.

Some of the stuff on the /lit/ starter list. I'd say To Kill a Mockingbird, Slaughterhouse-5 and The Great Gatsby.

nah too heavy given what she's currently reading.

i would go with something like the "The Fionavar Tapestry" by guy gavriel kay, its fantasy and quite romantic.

Gift her know-brow YA?

Okay, maybe some proper SF rather than the ersatz YA versions?

Day of the Triffids is a basically dystopian story, but there's something oddly cozy about it. I also really liked Rendezvous with Rama, The City and the Stars, and The Caves of Steel when I read SF as a teenager. All are quite plainly written, so they wouldn't be hard for a YA reader.

hmmm except she's a chick, not too many of them into sf, and from her current reading she certainly aint, which is why i went with kay.

How about Jeeves and Wooster? Their comedic, for adults and short.
>>
>>7385394
I thought most of the YA out there was just dumbed-down SF.
>>
>>7385413
Exactly my toughts , something like 1984 might be a too hard read?
>>
>>7385309
Regarding good YA, I recommend His Dark Materials. It's pretty deep (as far as fantasy goes) but also a lot of fun.
>>
>>7385541
Best choice itt

This guy's good

Also maybe some chine melville?

This thread happens often. For whatever reason I seem to end up in every one with nothing to add. However, Murakami is usually recommended for this situation.
>>

Get her Sabriel by Garth Nix. Just keep getting her high quality YA novels until she can't tell the difference between YA and adult.
>>
How do people who aren't plebian end up with that sort of plebian girlfriends anyway?
What value can you find in a girl who actually consider THG or John Green as good, that would justify a relationship?
The cringing totally overcomes sexual attraction.

because a person isn't so one dimensional that what they like to read is their only personality trait?

My spouse has no taste in literature.

But neither did I when we first met, aside from the things every teenager reads.

You grow as a person, and that includes your hobbies and interests. Just because you don't both grow in the exact same direction, doesn't make you love each other less or become less compatible (barring extreme cases).
