>>
à la recherche de les carnets du sous-sol
>>
>>7383399
theyre both really entry level and pleb
id read something a bit better such as ulysses
>>
>>7383419
I'm not ready for Ulysses yet.

>Should I read the 4th greatest prose work of the 20th century or Infinite Meme?
>>
Can I learn French by forcing myself through Proust?
>>
>>7383600
I'd rather read something written recently.
>>
>>7383413
Get the Kilmartin + Enright updated translation
>>
>>7383724
I've heard that, in the end, nothing matches Moncrieff translation
>>
>>7383724
>>7383732
Oh wait, nevermind...
>>
Whatever you do, don't listen to the dumbs that think Moncrieff is the absolute best. Get the Enright updated translation if you plan on reading the whole thing. If you're only reading Swann's Way, get the Davis translation.
>>
>>7383732
Moncrieff sucks balls
>>
>>7383435
Don't read it; it is literally the worst thing ever written.
>>
This may be a pants-on-head regarded question but how difficult is Proust's French prose? My literacy in French is intermediate, I'd say. Could I handle it with a dictionary?

What? He's going to be reading a translation.

What are you talking about?

dont sweat the translations, read the one u got, you're going to have to learn french some day anyway

also if u dont have a strong backing in entry level stuff then theres a big chance youre not gonna really enjoy it

i find books like to the lighthouse or portrait of an artist to be good books to read before in search
>>
>>7384714
No, Proust isn't easy to read, both lexically and structurally. Forcing yourself to read Proust seems a little bit much.

Come on, now...
