alright, so I see a lot of threads about how to begin writing regularly and consistently (there have been 5 - 6 threads in the past few days?) so I thought I would share something that works for me and will probably work for you if you're struggling
just write for 30 minutes a day
set a timer for 30 minutes, and just be in front of your word processor/piece of paper for that time
no distractions, nothing else
some days, I won't write anything in those 30 minutes
but sitting there every day builds a schedule, and soon you can write regularly
I'm going to do 30 minutes of writing now
well 30 minutes is up:
I picked up a short story I had previously put on the backburner and wrote 400 words
^______^
I need to finish a short story I'm working on by mid-December so I can use it as my writing sample to apply to grad school.
I've given up masturbating until it's done.
It's only day three.
I suspect by late-November I'll be losing my mind and the story will somehow become erotica without me noticing.

This is really fucking good. Even I can commit to 30 minutes. Great advice OP.

>grad school

Applying to a bunch of places.

I've read The War of Art and Turning Pro.. they are beautifully written. The very best of creative self-help books out there.

No thank you

What the fuck are you on about.
IT'S A LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON
TIME FOR ME TO PUT A TIMER FOR 30 MINUTES AND WRITE
>>7334998
well I only managed 200 words this time, but I did go over my notes and I understand my story better now
all writing is progress, even if it is just a single step towards the finish line!
Ok you cunts,I'm gonna write for 30 minutes.
I've never written anything my whole life Jesus christ

here's some other writing process advice I wish I had been given when I started out:
>do not second-guess your first draft. the most important thing at this stage is to get the words down on the paper
>avoid the temptation of constantly editing and re-writing one section--you need to finish the entirety of your first draft before you will even know what direction you really want to go in
>finish your projects
>kill your darlings--there will always be more of them
Just write

I love this man, I didn't know he wrote another book
So thank you for this, man, you made my day

I've read about 50 self-help (Yes, I know it's a pleb genre) books and Steven Pressfield authored some of the few that could be considered well written. Not only that, his ideas actually contain a reasonable level of depth and introspection that far exceeds similar works.

Man Borges is looking JUST tier these days
>>7335834
>Jorge tattoo on middle finger
>>7333302
>started a timer
>open up WordPad
>decide to write about the first thoughts that come to my head
>end up talking about my issues with depression
>talk about the endless parade of therapists I visited
>twenty-five minutes in
>take a look at my work
>become increasingly dissatisfied about the quality of my prose
>select all then delete the page I wrote
>no regrets
>begin feeling like offing yourself for not being able to fully
So all in all, it was a great exercise! I'll probably do it again tomorrow!
(Wow this sounded a lot like an /r9k/ post, too much... Hopefully, somebody gets a kek out of it.)
