Is this what /lit/ has become? This shit has been posted several fucking times today... Almost makes me want stirnerfags back.
>>
then your passion isn't your passion

peazy
>>
>>7332235
So you either have a retarded passion or you weren't quite talented and/or passionate enough to find the resources you needed.
>>
People with real passions just do them. It doesn't occur to them to do anything else. They never experience a moment of uncertainty.

They're people like that musician kid who drops out of high school to play every opportunity and are just like "lol? suck my dick?" when anyone tells them its not a good idea.
>>
>>7332281
Those people may not appear to have doubt but they have it. Its not as cut and dry as you seem to think.

I fell for the "get a STEM degree for employment purposes meme."

Now I feel slightly dead inside after realizing that this has set me up for a career in shit I don't give a fuck about.
>>
>>7332349
I'm majoring in mathematics right now and I'm getting that vibe already. Have no clue what the fuck to do...
>>
>>7332281

If only it were like that. Passion and practicality are sliding gradients. Passion is (like love) a deliberate decision at some point.

Same here m8. It's been a lot of work for basically nothing. Math degrees pretty much do three things:

1. accounting/actuary
2. grad school
3. teaching k-12

If you take a lot of programming and CS stuff you might be able to swing a job with programming.

I decided I was going to try and teach high school math and then realized recently that I don't give a fuck about teaching math. So now I'm trying to figure out how I can be a history or English teacher.

My advice is to switch majors to computer science or something you're passionate about. It's funny, my brother majored in philosophy just because he loved it and he's killing it in law school now. Another friend of mine landed a writing job for a finance news publication because of his philosophy minor (it showed he had writing skills other business majors could not demonstrate). The old advice of being careful is probably mostly bad.

Money = evil and pretty much the deal with Satan you have to cut in this world.

Doing art for money is almost as bad, IMHO, because you turn your muse into a whore and also endure hatred, infamy, and survivor's guilt for all your peers who didn't "make it over the wall."

I was originally a computer science major and switched to Math because Computer Science is something I can do but I hate to do. No passion or interest there unfortunately.

I love doing math work, I really do. But the degree and future in it part doesn't seem appealing.

It's like the 5th time you make this thread in two days, and I think I should politely point out that we can all tell that you actually followed the "make yourself employable" meme and now you regret it so deeply that you need to make these threads in order to hear people from the other paths who may be unhappy.

Don't worry, it's no big deal. You have only signed to a lifetime of emptiness, horrible social circles and existential despair. Now stop pretending to be one of us just to tell us we should be sad.

What was your passion? Seeing as you're posting on /lit/, did you become a published author?

Mysticism.

It's led me to intensively deal with my personal hangups, which helps brings out an ability to be happy without reason.

I've also ended up in a top 25 university for a subject that's closely related to my personal interests in mysticism, the mind, and phenomenal experience. I'm confident I am where I am because of my interest and trying to follow it closely.

>did you become a published author?
I haven't really been interested in that, but who knows? Maybe one day.
>>
>>7332512
Yes but you are still in university right?
Why do you think you can say that you're happy when you haven't graduated and haven't started looking for full time work? Honestly you seem quite naive but if it works out in the end than good for you.

Are you fucking kidding me? When people tell you to do STEM for employment purposes, they're only talking about the TE part; technology and engineering.

Now I'm picturing a humanities fag packed in a differential geometry class, thinking to himself: "This is necessary; I'm doing this is so I can land a well-paying job". Brings a smile to my face.
