How do you retain the books you've read?
Is it just a case of taking notes, rereading ect?
Why do you want to?
Concentrating and thinking as you read.
I never reread, the adventure becomes a destination

If your brain doesn't naturally retain large swathes of abstract information, you're too much of a pleb to bother with

You don't. You read for enjoyment and just reference the books you read when you want to remember a particular part. If it becomes that important to you, the more you reference it the more it will become engraved in your memory.
In philosophy, for example, you won't remember the intricacies of the arguments of Kant or Spinoza, but you can always come back to them.

I'm horrible with names and stuff, characters and authors. I study Literary Science and we often have seminars where we discuss the things we've read, that helps. I wish I could go to book circles without feeling like a wine loving single mother.
