My sister gave me The Razor's Edge and I have yet to read ittrefe. Looks good enough, though

We can't all jerk off to The Fault In Our Stars
>>6464135
Not sure what you mean by that but okay
>>6464064
like...you should probably develop your own taste. seems like you just read what you think seems 'intellectual'. So many of those books try to develop upon what a 'book' is, but aside from Dostoevsky and Hemingway (and judging by your selection, you just picked up the most famous Dostoevsky and the shittier 'manly' Hemingway) you don't seem to read any traditional novels that would help you understand why postmodern books are enjoyable. It's like watching the Venture Bros. without knowledge of Hannah Barbarra cartoons. I was dumbfounded that you don't also have a copy of Blood Meridian.
>wallace
>thompson

I don't think we're going to be friends

Blow me bitch. Elliot Templeton is the embodiment of /lit/. Larry is a bit of an edgelord, but we only view him as such because we're reading this book through the lens of an entire century's worth of derivative, stereotypically ennui-ridden protags.
Side note, does anybody remember the tripfag who used to champion W.S. Maugham in every thread? That guy was alright.
Is that really all you own? Get some fucking taste. I have this much and I'm only 19. 1/2
>>6464204
2/2
>>6464064
You started reading approximately one year ago and are still yet to read some of the books in that picture. You purchased a list of books lit has deemed introductory reading without concern for your own interests. You are trying to appear smart, and even bumped your own masturbatory thread. You should feel bad.
>>6464204

And the graphic novels. Upturned one is a Family Circus collection.
This thread made me cringe.
old pic
Not taking a new pic because I worked on this pic to trigger some acquaintances.
Notable differences are that I've lent Dubya and DFW and got a shit ton of books since. And less mess.

>>6464420
You're embarrassing yourself.
>>6464438
>implying stealing a book requires more effort than stealing a tablet
You're not very good at this.
>>6464507
You only have to steal a tablet once. then you just download the books.
Stealing books requires you doing it multiple times. unless you pick up 50 books at one time and call it quits.
>>6464064
>Sometimes a Great Notion
Don't listen to them, OP. You have decent taste.
Why do you lot only have a couple shelves of books?
Do you mainly use the library?
Do you have storage problems (i.e. living in a uni dorm)
>>6464524
Thanks, anon.

Did you SERIOUSLY just cite Anthony Bourdain as an author to boost your individualist credibility
Rather than just posting our book collections we should have a reading nook thread. Like /v/'s battlestations but /lit/.

>>6464822
Because that sort of attitude distinguishes you as a mature and literate human being.
I move around a lot, so my only hard copies are university textbooks.
>>6464729
That's what nerds do and it kind of proves that nerds are the worst people ever
>>6464729
Im inclined to agree but I've never seen anybody on here intelligently critisize someone's taste based on what books they haven't read. whereas OP just reeks of someone who just started reading six months ago and acts superior to everyone because of it.
>>6464911
>I've never seen anybody on here intelligently critisize someone's taste based on what books they haven't read
You've never seen posts like:
>he hasn't read [book popular on /lit/]
>being this pleb
here before?
>OP just reeks of someone who just started reading six months ago
agreed
>and acts superior to everyone because of it
pure conjecture
fuck my ass
>>6464949
same anon, whoops missed out on the "intelligently critisize" part. Even so I wouldn't count anything here as intelligent criticism.
It's like you browsed /lit/ for a few days and bought every book you saw mentioned at least two times
>>6464949
I started reading (regularly) about a year ago, and I still feel anxious talking about books as I feel I haven't built a strong enough context.
People like you and others in this thread would probably sniff me out and bury me like OP.
>>6464976
It really does. Well, lots of time to figure out/admit his own taste or lack thereof. I don't have time for taste, personally.
kek everyone jumped to berate OP for having "/lit/ taste", but completely ignored that this is the same board with several "starter kits", a whole wiki of recommended reading permanently stickied, and a meme trilogy.
>>6465517
You're missing the point entirely.

Due to a recent tragic occurrence which I can not and care not to discuss, I lost the majority of my possessions, including probably at least 2/3, maybe 3/4 of my books (I had in the neighborhood of 125-150). I am sad.
>>6465548
i'm sorry anon ;_;
>>6465265
flip those shelves upsidedown works like a charm
>>6465528
The problem isn't that someone can't have entry-level taste, the problem is thinking a picture of a bookshelf containing only entry-level taste deserves a thread or to be posted at all.

>>6464204
I'd be you're friend, but we'd argue a lot.
>>6464314
you're copy of Dune is way thicker than mine...
OP is only reading memes, and the thought of Heidegger on one shelf with Anthony Bourdain makes me cringe
>>6466136
Aristotle and Aquinas are the ones that I was thinking of, they just write so un-erotically... and their arguments are so pedantic. Our arguments would invariably veer off into a series of parentheses nit picking at epistemology.
>>6466136
props for buying Britannica though, I love that series, I've got ~15 (though I've probably only read 10 or so of the ones I have)
>>6466128
Really? Not sure why. The text in it is pretty small as it is.

Yeah, parents got me that for Christmas. Keep it on my shelf, because why not?

Judging by that Warhol book, you should look into Arthur Danto.
Bit of a retard sometimes, but his Warhol analysis tend to be great
>>6467132
Got one ceiling fan in the room and table lamp on the far side away from the shelves. Both are pretty dim for pictures, but they're not bad by any means.
>>6467132
Who needs light to have books? If you got flash on your iphone camera you can photograph them to post on /lit/ :^)
>>6464204
Having the Britanica Aquinas and Augustine on there, being the only religious text, I can tell you haven't read them.
When you do decide its time, read Aristotle first, and understand his hylemorphism. Otherwise, things like the 5 ways or whatnot won't have any gravity.

I get the appeal but nothing on this says "dystopian 80s future", those ugly anime / 90s digital art / corel draw tier covers at least have some resemblance to whatever's going on in the books

>>6467339
Thanks, I'm currently studying italian (through Dylan Dog, but still), I'll look into Toppi's stuff.
I guess I have some Druillet on the Metal Hurlant scans I got, but haven't read them yet.

That's my pleasure. Good luck with Italian, even if I don't think that'll be that hard for a Latin-American (I guess)

HEY EVERYONE! I LIKE BUYING AND OWNING BOOKS. I FEEL MORE ACCOMPLISHED WITH A SHELF FULL OF BOOKS!
READ THEM? NO, NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT
>>6467499
Rise and Fall of the Third Reich was poorly constructed and poorly researched tripe. I doubt you actually read and instead just keep it on the shelf so you can talk like you have when people ask.
>>6467589
Who says we don't read our books, faggot?
If OP is a troll the he went through a lot of effort for a troll post. I am thinking he is for reals and he is genuinely proud of his "super smart" fedora tier poser book collection.
That pic OP posted is some seriously cringeworthy shit.
>>6464822
Lets do it :)
>>6464976
I graduate with two degrees in English and journalism in about 6 months and I still feel like this.
I know it's dumb but my crippling self-doubt doesn't
This year I've read:
1984
Essays and Aphorisms
The Ego and His Own
The Myth of Sisyphus
The Crying of Lot 49
V.
Dubliners
Portrait of the Artist as a young man
Catch-22
Lolita
Slaughterhouse-Five
Moby Dick
Iliad and Odyssey
Blood Meridian
Am I more /lit/-core than OP?
