Price stated here seems really high for just a face and neck session and unrealistically low for a 6-8 sessions package. $100 to $150 per session should be enough to get the real thing. Also, I wouldn't settle for a tech. Having it done by a dermatologist really is a basic thing someone should ask for. The main problem with reviews is that most of them are written by cis women and IPL can be enough for their hair, so they could still be satisfied even after being basically lied to about the equipment and, let's be frank, swindled.
So, yeah, for laser, I would avoid salons altogether. Between false advertisement and techs that aren't up to the task, they're definitely a gamble. Getting it from a trained professional is worth the slight extra cost. Here, it's not even an option. Lasers are listed as medical devices, so salons are barred from owning and operating them. And since laser doesn't require a prescription, it's probably the best middle ground.
Something a serious professional would do, though, is to first have a proper consultation and test on a small area to check for adverse reactions. I'd be wary of any place that doesn't do that.

Just look up dermatology clinics in the yellow pages for your area, really. Most offer laser for hair, scar and tattoo removal.
Dermatologists working outside clinics may also own the basic equipment since it's such a routine treatment these days. They probably won't have the fancier lasers needed to work on dark skins, though. Which may or may not be an issue for you.

I'm sure it was private. The tests & checkup were also at Monaco's hospital. The doctor knew about treating transgenders. So did the shrink.
