This question is really difficult to answer since we currently do not truly understand transsexualism very well, plus the old classification system is a bit odd in this case.
Suppose you have a straight man, Steve, a gay man, Gregory, and a transwoman, Tiffany.
Regardless of whether Tiffany is "really" a man or a woman Gregory is not attracted to her because she looks and feels like a woman. Conversely Steve's attracted to her because she looks like a woman. Steve is repulsed by manliness while Gregory is attracted to it.
Is it accurate to call Steve gay if he is only attracted to people who look and feel like women? Does classifying both Steve and Gregory as having the same orientation makes sense? I say no, but at the same time there is no denying that biologically Tiffany is not fully a woman (though, thanks to hormone and a different brain structure, it is inaccurate to call her a man).
