I'd say not. Often times in games they're out of nowhere or they play the "Oh, by the way, I'm gay/lesbian" card. It's a weak move and doesn't do much for the game besides having one character stand out a tiny bit.

Dragon Age: Origins has one male-male and one female-female relationship available for the player character. I've heard the rest of the Dragon Age series is pretty queer friendly too but I haven't played them. Other than that, I know there are gay (and bisexual, and asexual) dwarves in Dwarf Fortress...

DA:O is the only decent Dragon Age in the entire franchise. And by decent I mean mediocre. Everything else is pretty poor.
