I don't understand why so many trans women decide to be visible and post pre transition or old clocky pictures all the time. The ones in the public eye make a lot of money out of it but the rest... The more their past is known or retracable the less chances they have of living a somewhat normal middle age life. In case you're interested, I've been doing it by finding each percentile-value's distance from the mean, dividing by the respective qnorm for that percentile, and averaging those.
That seemed like the most accurate way to do it, at least.

Eh, fair enough, but I'd be wary of rounding down by a whole two thirds of your value.

Here's the thing. I got dragged by cis friends in the kind of women's spaces most terfs want us dead for trespassing in (college feminist groups, restrooms, etc). They knew I was trans.
I have yet to be made to feel othered and if anything "you're one of the girls anyway" is a thing I've had friends say back when I was a femboy. I've only rarely felt a big pressure to be very stealth, and the few times it happened it turned out that it's just as simple as not talking about it and hiding the d.
And the fear that things would be found out by accident made it an extremely unpleasant experience each time. So I'm not out by default, but yeah, I don't really feel like it's a dark secret I must hide forever because that puts a weight on your mind.

Even with the 0.3% number ciswomen over 6 feet still outnumber trans women, just not quite by so big a value, so it still sort of holds true that height isn't something that's really clockable unless it's at extremes. I think we went with the 1 in 1000 solely because I was stubborn and remembered it being the number cited at the time I went through the system. In the end though, generally ime people only notice height if you're a whole head taller or shorter anyways, so it's not really a clockable feature regardless of the numbers.

FWIW I've been on a lot of points of the spectrum. I've had partners who were comfortable claiming it, I've had partners who were also comfortable not making a fuss about it. Sometimes I enjoy being around people who don't know, it's more, I feel like stealth puts an obligation on what I should do and while I can mostly brush up my childhood on my own, I'm really bad at doing things when I feel obligated to do them.
