The reason the West did so well basically comes down to enclosure. You could try and trace the root causes of all this back further, e.g. the Norman invasion creating a more formalised and stratified division between nobility and Anglo-Saxon peasants, allowing for more decesive action to be taken in regards to feudalism, but basically Engiand had a perfect confluence of factors that allowed it to have breakthroughs that dragged the rest of the West into the modern era. E.G. China didn't undergo an industrial revolution because their culture was too stable and there was never the pressure to. It was luck rather than superiority.
