What's your opinion on glock knives? Have heard mixed reviews about these blades. While it isn't full tang it seems to be pretty sturdy regardless.
>>
They're the bomb
>>
If you want a knife to take with during military service, they're cheap and they work. If you want a knife for pretty much any other reason besides collecting, they're "eh" at best. Don't even bother getting a sawbuck blade unless you don't intend to use it.
>>
>>30645200
Yeah, it seems like they don't have much functionality other than for combat purposes.
>>
>>30645137
well you could buy one, or you could buy a knife that has a nice handle...
>>
>>30645214
They are indeed sturdy as fuck and quite cheap. It really depends on what you intend to use it.
>>
>>30645137
If you want a $26 beater knife that will withstand pretty much anything you throw at it, there is no substitute. Just dont use the polymer handle like a fuckin hammer.

If you got some $, get the actual Austrian issued one, its a bayonet that is supposed to fit on all NATO bayo lugs.
>>
they are durable as fuck but will rust instantly. ive abused the hell of of one for years and its held up. taken way more abuse than a knife in that price range would. i think they discontinued the 78 and only make the sawback models now. the 78s gone from glocks website and midway says its discontinued. its a shame cause the 81 sawback is almost worthless. the 78 feels much better.
for what it costs its a good knife not the best knife but a respectable one

Basically I only use it as a truck knife. Doesn't hold a blade for shit but can still be a decent stabby thing
>>
>>30645137
Been using the M78 version for years now as my standard innawoods blade. Most of the finish is gone from the blade but it's held up perfectly and has only needed to be sharpened a few times.
Just don't get the sawbuck version.
>>
>>30645137
Do they explode after hitting their target?
>>

under rated post

Not the sharpest knife, but by the great leader does it take a beating. I have been torturing mine for the last 5 years and it refuses to die.
>>
Can't beat the price/quality ratio.

It doesn't retain an edge as good as harder types of steel, but he is also tougher because of the springier softer steel.

It's general purpose affordable knife, if you are opposed to this principle then basically you shouldn't buy military spec gear, because it follows the same design philosophy.
>>
>>30647333
Well it doesn't need to be that sharp, considering its main function is being a stabby thing

As an Austrian and former boyscout, I got my first when I was 15. Ive gone through 4 in my life.

Honestly... They are great for small tasks like battoning/digging etc.

They dont hold an edge well at all and they are unbalanced as fuck.

Overall they are a heavy beater to do anything with, but forget any cutting.
>>
>>30648991
How did you break them?
>>
I have one. Did some basic cutting, threw it around a few times, it's fun to mess with but nothing special. Sawback is indeed worthless but I think it looks cool.
>>
>>30649014

Rust took the first, plus I chipped the tip very badly when prying something (dont remember 10 years ago).

My second one I lost falling into a swamp (boy scout camp).

My third I running through the woods.

My current one is old, dull and rusty, but it works.

I got a Kabar a few years back and its so much nicer, but I doubt its as durable when abused.

I am thinking of buying a proper ESEE/Fallkniven.

Thats the thing about the Glock knife. Super cheap and they sell them everywhere here in Austria.

so in case I ever need a chisel, a Glock knife is good to go

>Get one or more of these instead

da fuck is it?
>>
>>30646041
That's the first I've heard of them fitting ANY NATO bayo lugs. Can anyone confirm?
>>
>>30645137
They are alright. Nothing really collectible or something. Sharpen it to make it better, and you'll be set with a field knife. Also the guard will work as a bottle opener, and it's weighted in a way to use it as a throwing knife.

My man.
When did they make the mid sized scrama?
>>
>>30652343
Varusteleka's brand of knives. They're not cheap but they're made in Finland and pretty fucking rugged.
>>
>>30645137
It's a knife you'll never use. Just buy it. You know you're going too anyways.
>>
>>30653042
the bottle opener on it is incredibly useful. its even better than some real bottle openers
>>
>>30646120
>Literally a kitchen knife

no thanks
>>
>>30653128
The first design is based off of the seax and the second the puukko. Both have extensive historical use as bush knives/tools and the seax as a weapon as well.
>>
>>30649175
>extra money
those are going for what, $400, $500 on ebay?
>>
>>30646175
I can shave with mine. just re-profile the edge
>>
>>30645137

Pros:

- cheap
- sturdy
- sits secure in sheath

Cons:
- rusts
- uncomfortable handle
- hard to get out of sheath

No? You can get something like a KM2000 or a KM5000 on eBay for less than $200.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GERMAN-EICKHORN-INFANTRY-KM-5000-COMBAT-KNIFE-DAGGER-WITH-SHEATH-LOOK-/191903858440?hash=item2cae5c7f08:g:UikAAOSwGvhUGaDR

Fair warning, don't get a KM2000 if you don't like tanto.
