>>

Pretty comfy and it holds everything I need. A lot of people will say to get a detachable hydration source but I have no issues with mine. I can still pull it out to refill it without having to take the whole rig off and I can sit in a vehicle without any real issues. It's bretty gud, TAG had the UCP one on sale a while back, but now they're going for like $220. Got mine for about $180 from Amazon of all places. They may have more, haven't looked since I bought mine.

>>
>>30618528
Yeah I was just price shopping. I'd buy for in Ranger Green for ~100-$120, but for that much I'll probably just stick with what I have. The integrated hydro pouch seemed appealing. I'm not a fan of gear stacking anyway. (Camel back on top of chest rig, on top of PC... so many straps)
>>
>>30618556
They have one without the bib and hydration carrier for $95. It's a lot more bear bones but you could always add the bib and hydration pouch later.
>>
>>30618576
Hmm, and what do they call that configuration. Ideally I'd just want the chest rig and hydration pouch, not a fan of bibs.

I wasn't. Shitty eyes and an adversity for literal retards being my direct superiors is what kept me out. Which at the time sucked because pretty much my whole family was military. Now it doesn't really bother me. I got the chance to go to college and get a decent job that could afford me luxeries such as being able to afford to buy gear and training courses. While I have by no means the same level of training as members of the military I have at least something to use.

I can nab a supply of MRE's to throw in the pack.

Another thing some of you guys may want to know, 'nam C Rations came with smokes in the accessory pack. The cigs (and coffee) in the pack are amazing (Chesterfields definetly are the best) and can be added at a pretty small cost if you know where to look.

Have a metal cig container with a box of mint condition C-Ration smokes. If SHTF, its nice to have something to take the edge off.

Aight

Finally got my CC permit in and I need to find a way to effectively CC, as I currently have 4 holsters and can't quite make any of them work.

Firearms in question, each has its pros and cons so more than likely I'll just carry the one I end up having an easiest time with or cycle at random.
>Full-size 1911
>Makarov
>Ruby Revolver (4.5")

I'm 6'5" and 135lb, and at work wear a tucked in, button up shirt. Need something that I can still maneuver around on ducting and shit with, and doesn't require me wearing a jacket all the time.

So far I've gotten 2 IWB tuckable holsters, one for my Makarov and one for my 1911. 1911 was uncomfortable as fuck, Mak was fine except the belt clip is real damn obvious and moving around had the tendency to push the gun out of the holster.
Got a UTG horizontal shoulder holster, could adjust and fit either my Makarov or 1911 in it, but it turns out the bottom of the thing is attached to one's belt, so wearing it with a tucked shirt doesn't work too well
And lastly I got an Uncle Mike brand vertical shoulder revolver holster. Got the size for 5" revolvers but mine was way too small, though putting it in backwards gave a pretty good fit, but the whole setup is so huge there's no way I can conceal it under just a buttoned up shirt

What kind of holsters would other anons look for in this situation?

You'd be surprised at how good they are, even after all this time.

Not everyones line, but a flask of whiskey, box of cigs, coffee, or cholcolate seems overlooked by many when it comes to gear. Not essential, but even just a little bit of it can help mentally for SHTF if you have to fight and innawoods for a ling time.

I was in the military but I'm not a combat vet (firefighter POG). I really want to take advanced weapon and combat courses as a civ but I don't know where to start or where to even look. I've got my basic CCW but other than that I dont have any training besides what I do on my own time (draw practice, watching basic firefight videos and shit like that). I would look into taking a 2-day basic pistol class first, because if you show up to a higher level class you really don't want to be that guy holding everyone else back or taking up a disproportionate amount of the instructor's attention. Read reviews (AARs) of the instructor's work before you sign up. Some key points to look out for are whether they have a good instructor to student ratio, and whether they are any good at diagnosing shooting errors. Read this:
http://pistol-training.com/articles/where-to-start
>>
>>30619114
Also roughly what region are you? I can try and recommend some instructors if you want.
>>
>>30618925

get a glock and stealthgear holster. Most comfortable setup youll ever use.

Don't wear a tuckable, people will notice the exposed clips. Women tend to notice that stuff and then not tell you about it, so they'll talk amongst themselves, and then each of them is going to be paying attention for those clips the next time they see you. Soon enough everyone in the fucking office is thinking you have a colostomy bag or something.
>>
>>30619220

>Don't wear a tuckable

I don't think anything is wrong with a tuckable so long as you are able to cover the clips with a shirt. If you are wearing a tucked in shirt with a tuckable holster, then I'd agree with you.
>>
>>30619206
Personally I'll accept around 1:14. 1:20 is a fucking no-go.

Try Practical Firearms Training (https://pgpft.com). I know FPF training in VA does good work. Green Ops in Northern VA is good too.

>>30619235
I agree but the poster said he tucks his shirt in. So in that case I would heavily advise against tuckables, the whole premise of tucking a shirt in and exposing the clips is stupid to me. I would recommend something like a belly band or a smartcarry holster. If you really want to do it right I would get someone to make a kydex shell that you can velcro into the bellyband or smartcarry for retention.

Why isn't anyone running soft armor?
>>
>>30619512
Weight, cost, heat retention. If you're a SWAT cop in urban areas you should wear soft armor but for going into the woods or mountains plates are enough in my opinion.
>>
>>30619512
I do with my 6b45, and probably will get another with balcs cut, defender 2 cut or redout. OR the large r-karbid carrier.

Because most of us are subscribing to the Idea that you should be wearing armor that can stop whatever you're carrying.
>>
>>30619799
Only 5 pouches... I hope you're putting more NATO in that water pouch
>>
>>30619512
This is actually a very cromulent question for home defense or static anti-looting defense. Most of the justifications for wearing only plates aren't relevant to a relatively short term and static use of armor. I would say that in regards to static use, wearing full cut soft armor with plates makes more sense than just wearing plates. Especially when considering that criminals primarily use handguns rather than long guns, and that is what you would most likely be faced with in a riot type situation.

The one advantage to plate carriers vs. full armor for home defense is that you can put a plate carrier on a tiny bit faster. Though this is assuming you have enough time to actually put it on at all, which may not be realistic when doing home defense with no prep (for HD I only ever presume to have enough time to get the handgun holstered next to my pillow). However, time permitting, if you have enough time to toss a plate carrier on, it isn't a bad idea.

Many people here are rocking plate carriers because it is more comfortable and because plates and carriers are more popular than aftermarket full armor with military, so there is a wider, cheaper selection.
>>
>>30619969
For the sake of argument, in a static anti-looting situation you have cover on your side, so if you prepare your position well handgun/shotgun threats are not as big a deal, with regards to soft armor on the body. Maybe you could make the argument for a ballistic helmet in that context, especially at night with NODs on. Also new soft ballistic panels are expensive. For the price of a full set you could buy another set of plates and a cheapo plate carrier.
>>
>>30619969
Not cromulent at all, and I'm thinking about getting concealable IIIa before trauma plates for my first set.

I engineer commercial and industrial buildings. I have to go out to sites and inspect fairly often. This leads me to being in pretty ghetto areas next to industrial parks or in large cities that are less than idea for a white man in a suit.

Which leads me into my second question. Does anyone have a preferred brand for concealable soft armour?

Not anon but...

The holster is fine.

Show me empirical data of how many misfires occur due to the serpa in comparison to other comparable holsters and I may reconsider.

But from personal experience with the holster during my time in Iraq and AD, I had zero incidence, and the soldiers around me who had that holster had zero problems.

Also the video you showed was a cut from a guns and ammo review of the serpa praising it as a good holster. That part was the "what not to do" part taken out of context.

Serpa is fine.

The other question is how accessible are the back mags behind flapped mags on front. I know people do the BFG ten-speeds in front of a kangaroo pouch insert but I think the SKD pouches would interfere with gripping the mags in the triple shingle.

>>
>>30621881
You probably are around a medium size SAPI. Test this by looking up the plate dimensions and cutting out some cardboard or something and laying it on your chest. You want the plate to be wide enough to cover the outside edges of both nips. The carriers are sized off the plates.

If the threat were pistol rounds then soft armor. On the battlefield soft armor is too due to the nature of injuries... fragmentation and hemorrhage from multiple trauma sites. I find plates by themselves to be kinda iffy because of the small coverage area and the fact that if you're at an oblique angle then that round could get what you think you might be protecting. Something like an interceptor vest is decent but retains heat like a motherfucker as any soft armor will. So go with whatever options rubs your Buddha. Although koko sums his reason quite well >>30619799

Chem lights -Dusk signalling.
MREs - Always have extra food, one meal more than you think you need.
Towel - take away sweat during a break
Socks - lol jk its just a meme, use the same set of socks you'll be fine :^)
Cleaning kit, preferably a rod, to clear some types of jams
, 35 feet of para-cord minimum, always useful.
poncho w/ blanket liner, to stay warm at night or to aid a shock victim
I recommend a hammock too
Binocs, for recconing avenues of patrol
Compass and GPS, to know avenues of patrol
Matches, Lighter, to light things on fire. Keep lighter in easy access and matches tucked in reserve.
IFAK. ( + )
Google Maps can be a passable map, if printed off.
Bayonet, because its a utility knife that is already a spear
I'm forgetting something.

Pic related is a little out of date, but some of what you should have.

Well, what you carry in your SADF battle jacket is very different from what I would carry.

First, you need to think what you're using it for?

since you can't fit a pack over it comfortably what you have in your kit is what you're probably going to have to use.

What I would pack or attempt to pack

>water
canteen pouches or back pouches

>Grenade pouches
Space blanket
fire starting kit
compass
batteries
gun care kit
range finder
Lens cleaning kit

>large left-hand GP pouch/ map pocket the GP pouch underneath
IFAK: 6" Israeli Bandage, Gauze, NPA, decompression needle, TQ, chest seals, medical tape, latex gloves, chem lights.

>underneath map pocket
chest seals
map
mildot master with a bullet drop cheats sheet
notebook
papers
etc

>right hand smoke pouch
UV-5R
Optolyth 10x28 Monocular with MP-8 reticle
marker panel
flashlight
Celox V12090

>pen holders
pens
sharpies
pensils
chemlight

pack food, socks, rain kit in the left over space

Honestly, have never tried one. Seems like SWAT and such around here like them, figured I should give it a shot. The belt won't be crowded, so I could always switch to a belt mount. Current plan for the belt is:
Holster (drop rig with 2x mag holders, or on belt)
Trauma kit (TACMED drop rig + 2xSOFF-T on the pouch)
2x HSGI Taco rifle mag pouches
Surefire light holster
Possibly a chemical weapons pouch

Is this a good deal? Here is the description, all this for $650 and some 9mm. German Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm single/double for trade. I think it started life as a police service weapon, but I am not sure. The finish is beat up (read "character"), but rifling is great and internal function is very smooth. I replaced the decocker, hammer, and recoil spring(s) with factory parts when I got it in trade.

It's sporting a set of trijicon night sights, Hogue finger groove grips, two holsters, and five 15rd mags (three factory.) I also have the original box and documents from 1989 when it was born.

>>
>>30623123
Why'd you want american plates?
>>
>>30626120
You are not going to have time to throw on concealable body armor and I highly doubt you're wearing that shit all day. If you do, it'll interfere with your ability to draw a concealed handgun IWB so you'll have to go up a size in shirts and probably switch to OWB.

To me, realistic gear means a double stack semi-auto, at least one spare mag, the ability to hit vital zones out to at least 25 yards on demand, a flashlight to PID threats in a dark environment, and possibly an ankle or pocket medkit.
>>
>>30626403

I'm a LEO , so if there are sites with discounts you know of, or places that are LEO only , that's fine too.
>>
>>30626463
my stepdad was a cop for 30 years and we talked a lot about wearing soft armor under clothing for long periods. He said that if you buy soft armor vests you want to buy literally the most expensive one you can find because wearing is sucks after the novelty wears off so you want the nicest most comfortable vest you can get. Aslo wearing a synthetic performance moister wicking shirt under it is mandatory.

If you're open to other options AT Armor is a good place. You can get 2 standalone level IV plates and a carrier for $400 there with LE creds.
>>
>>30626503
you don't want AR500 especially if you are a cop. You should be looking for level IV ceramics. most places only give LEO discounts if you are ordering through a department email.

Seems like a lot of weight on your hip for no real benefit. Three pistol mags is pushing it especially considering you already have 2 rifle on the belt. A lot of BTDT guys barely have anything on their belt line. Medkit, holster, pistol mags, maybe 1 rifle mag.
>>
>>30626670
i'd rather have one rifle mag then three pistol mags.
>>
>>30626687
I think that depends on the situation. I personally don't intend on carrying more than 2 pistol mags on a belt line. Rifle mags are nice and all but if you're going to the effort of carrying a pistol I would want at least 1 spare mag. Otherwise just run a slick belt.

if i was carrying a pistol i would have one in the gun and one in my kit but wouldn't waste all that space and weight on pistol mags if i could have more ammo for my primary. I don't want to ever be close enough that my pistol is a viable weapon. i want to be hiding in the woods avoiding people.

it isn't for CC it's just a range belt
>>
>>30626744
Then that's situational. I don't live anywhere near the woods so the handgun is a backup if the rifle malfs or I run dry at close range. In an urban environment it's a lot more effective and it's more likely to be used, so some spares are nice to have. Again, my ideal belt setup is 2 pistol mags, 1 rifle, blow out kit, TQ, holster, and a knife.
>>
>>30626781
Then I would recommend some individual OWB kydex mag pouches like the Bladetech ones. The pistol ones can be used for CC, the rifle ones might conceal okay under a big jacket.
>>
>>30626781
Also I don't see the point in having separate CC and range gear. Short of training all jocked up because "race war", why not shoot from your CC gear?

Jesus Christ man have some dignity... Go on /b/ if you wanna talk to trap faggots.
>>
>>30626808
Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for thanks bro.

>>30626817
The way I thought of it was
>carry more mags on my person
>longer drills and such
>3gun if I wanted

my pistol will still be IWB for CC drills.

Hey /k/ommandos

I recently bought a Mayflower APC from the SKD sale. I got a coupon in the package and I won't be buying anything anytime soon and figured I'd give you all the coupon. Expires July 31.

First to take it. $15 off a purchase of $150+

Fits pretty well but you need to have your harness set to your mid torso so the waist strap doesn't get muffed up.

i won the canteens but i don't have the hose. I've talked to dude who used them. they used to hang the big canteens upside down on to the top of their alice packs and drink it like you would a camelbak to save the water in their canteens.
>>
>>30627592
Thanks anon.

Really.

The reason I ask is actually more SHTF related than gear, I'm specifically asking about the straws because I keep an ALICE get home bag in my car with both a 1L and 2L canteen on it that have the adapter caps. I also have actual gear for shooting with a camelbak and shit but the camelbak bladder doesn't work very well with he ALICE packs.since I already have these two on my pack and 4 other canteens with the straw adapters it just seems appropriate to get the matching straw. It is designed for this gear set up after all, but I'm not going to purchase one if they are notoriously shit
>>
>>30627616
I forgot to ask, while you're here. Where did you get the hat you have in your other picture you post?
>>
>>30627618

ayyyy alice pack buddies

you can slip that axe into the pass-throughs behind the three outside pouches.
>>
>>30627636
Yeah, now i look like a dumbass
>Such is the way of 4Chan
>>
>>30627631
if you have the room what i do is put my camelbak under the top flap when i cinch the bag down. that way you can run the camelbak tub out the side. works fine for me when i am backpacking.
like i said here >>30627614 guys would usually mount a big canteen upside down and high up on their gear when they used those tubes. i've never heard that they were particularly good or bad.
>>
>>30627631
also you can wear a chicom chest rig for you AK mags really comfortably while wearing your alice pack.
>>
>>30622770
Then fuck off back to plebbit or wherever you came from. /k/ has always had guys who wear womens' clothing, furries, and dragon dildos.
