Soon I'll be buying a Remington New Model Army. It'll be my first cap and ball revolver. Is there anything I need to know about these before I buy? I know I need no. 10 caps, a powder measure, .44 balls and patches. Anything else I need?
Ballistol and water is the best mixture I've found to clean up black powder residue... you can just dump the disassembled pistol into a vat of it for a few minutes and wipe it down if you feel like being lazy.
Also recommend a conversion cylinder and some .45LC rounds for convenient everyday shooting.

Always clean the cap nipples after firing; people tend to forget that and then they corrode into place.
Also, patches are unnecessary if you use a .454 ball, as the shaved lead will seal the front of the chamber. Some oiled patches or bore butter makes the fouling a lot easier to get out but isn't necessary to prevent chainfires as long as you have tight caps and balls.

This. Make sure to use cowboy loads, hunting ammo isn't really safe to use. The powder difference, see.

Try .454 balls to start with. Buy a tube of anti-seize and treat the nipple threads before you shoot it.
Why not get a cartridge version? Cimarron sells them.

it is complete and utter metalic sex for me. It does things to my dick like the FAL.

i dont use those wads/patches. I third the ballistol-water mixture to clean it without worrying about rust. Mine ended up using .457 instead of what the manual recommended.

yes, if youre doing cap and ball as opposed to cartridge, then its the better of the low budget cap and ball revolvers. Definitely better than the colt navy (i own both). Though remember, it is cap and ball, it wont be 100% reliable. it was also teach you the discipline of caring for your firearms since it forces you to clean it the same day you shoot it.
