There is a 12% chance that within the next decade there will be a major solar flare that will fry all but the highest nasa-grade equipment and literally knock us back into the 18th century.

What happens next? There will be no communications and likely no effective law enforcement in the months to rebuild. Does all hell break loose with rooftop koreans and looters taking to the streets? How are you prepared?
>>
>>30558215
12% is the extreme scenario, it's probably much lower

I've prepared myself by having no piles of gold, no piles of MREs, and no daughters to protect

There will be many miniature versions of me running around the moonscape that is earth, within the decades after the big flare

Enjoy your daughters while you still can, anons

Major power companies have been getting funding to set aside backup transformers for a while now, at state and federal level.

Also...EMP is a traveling wave. It needs a big antenna to collect enough energy to do anything. So power grids are at risk, but your laptop (assuming it has a surge protector like 99.9% of modern laptops), car, and cellphone are fine.
>>
>>30558215
>literally knock us back into the 18th century

The 19th century, dumbass.

They said the same shit 4 years ago. Luckily we don't live in the 1950s anymore and technology and shielding has advanced a bit

Sounds like a party to be honest.

1: Right to bear arms will be appreciated again.

2: No more pussies because they won't be able to survive.

3: Less government control as a result of the illogical loss. Meaning more freedom.

>EMP VS CARS?
Will my brand new F-150 survive or go tits up? Why is there no consensus on what will happen? Automakers need to be more open on what the vehicles are rated to. The thing I don't get from the "it'll be fine" crowd is why does the military run EMP proof vehicles then?
>>
>>30558751
Anything with a cpu and fuel injection with will be undrivable. All vehicles in the United States have a cpu post 1996 when federal law required it.
>>
>>30558751
>Will my brand new F-150 survive or go tits up?
Any car that requires a computer to function...won't function.
So anything made after 1979.

>Automakers need to be more open on what the vehicles are rated to.
Okay anon i'm sorry but your new F-150 is a grocery getter like 100% of modern vehicles.
Not even memeing.

I don't give a shit because I don't own a car and haven't since 1998

except the ones that are still being driven that don't but i see what you mean.

also it's worth mention that automakers made the EFI switch way before 96. 1996 was just a deadline.

just cycle the power and it'll come back on, EMPs are not nearly as scary as people say

the real LE TERROR EVENT would be massive data loss in unshielded drives, but anything important would be in faraday cages and shit. even normal server farms for small businesses tend to have protection against interference. so basically you'll lose all the furry porn you saved. oh no
>>
>>30563137
Lol, discovery channel.

You might want to upgrade to a real source like the federal EMP commission, which discovered that cars tend to be fine, since they act like a faraday cage. Anything not linked to a power line, really.

>sees evidence

This is not an unknown phenomena
Your car is vulnerable to EMP deal w/it
Whether an EMP will happen is unlikely but that's not the question at hand.
>>
>>30563165
>anything not linked to a power line
Even then, power lines themselves are designed to not be damaged by EMPs (since the high current running through generates a pretty powerful field on its own as it is) and most consumer electronics these days have surge protection in them in some way. Anything that doesn't either wouldn't "blow up" like in shitty discovery channel WAT IF AYYLIUMS ATTACK shows.

There actually was a solar flare a few years back that knocked out the power in the north of new york and a bit of quebec and ontario. It was 3 days without power, but nothing exploded, radios still worked, anything with batteries in it worked fine, etc. The only way people knew it was a solar flare and not just kelp in some hydro turbines is that it was on the news. That people still got. Because some places have redundant power systems by grace of buying and selling literal energy to eachother and didn't get knocked out, or came online faster than others.

It really hasn't though, and at least back then the transformers were produced domestically.

Things are way more fragile now.

You faggots don't realize that most shit you use doesn't have enough wiring to be effected by EMP

It only effects power grids except in the most apocalyptic level EMP scenarios
>>
>>30563764
>I live for myself. But my daughter is the greatest thing in my life.
>When you grow pubic hair you might understand.
When you lose enough things near and dear to your heart you will realize this is the way of things.

Which leaves you with two choices. Continue to attach feelings to temporary, destructible things and continue to get bludgeoned by life. Or adapt, and accept that caring about things outside of your control is not healthy investment.

Having half your family die over the years and failing to stop a suicide have a way of destroying one's naive fantasies of the world.

>If I just care enough, things will be all right!
No they wont anon.

Motorcycles don't require it but most motorcycle companies still utilize an ECU along with electronic fuel injection. Probably because of additional emission requirements.
