In my experience, you just listen to the cop and do as he says. If for whatever reason he's about to search you or wherever you have your gun (I keep one I n my car), you just say "before you check, there's a gun in so and so location--just so you know."

Legally, the left lane is for passing while still staying under the speed limit. Realistically it's for going faster than the flow of traffic at whatever speed so long as you're not blocking out someone behind you.

If for some reason they are about to search your person, which should never happen anyway, they will probably ask if you have any weapons or anything they might get cut on. This would be the time to mention it, again, like a calm, regular person.

Honestly, and I don't know how I can say this without sounding 100% speculative, the issue in the latest shooting was the officer NOT commanding him to put his hands on the wheel or dash. I'd just do it to be safe, maybe even out the window honestly. By that I mean I too will be doing that from now on, and I recommend everyone else do the same.
If the cop actually initiates orders though, usually after he'll tell you when and where to reach. I can only speculate, but the aftermath video looks like a panicked cop who failed to communicate.
I think the takeaway here is to inform law enforcement that you have a firearm in the car and then comply with directions.
