Given his rap sheet, his illegal carrying of a firearm, and his obvious willfulness to physically resist police officers, yes I believe he was willing to kill them.
It's important to remember he didn't get the cops called on him for stealing a candy bar. He threatened a homeless man with a gun. He was a felon, on probation at the time, and illegally carrying. This would have been his second firearm offense and he had previously been sentenced to 5 years in Louisiana. Yes, I believe he was willing to kill them in order to avoid going back to prison.

Sorry, but that is not how the legal system works. Your debt to society is supposed to be repaid when you do your time, which he did. Just like the other guy said yesterday: you cannot go shooting drivers on an overpass, and just because you shoot one that happened to be in the middle of a kidnapping, get off scott-free. Before, and after the fact circumstances cannot be used as justification of actions during a situation.

Which is why I also listed his illegal carrying of a firearm (a current in-process crime) and his physically resisting the officers. Those were both current circumstances at the time of the altercation. If you get shot while physically resisting police officers AND reaching for a concealed weapon, that is a justified shooting.
