Because only an idiot doesn't know how to care for carbon/non-stainless, and thus doesn't deserve one, same as with knives.

For me, it's just a matter of preference for carry handguns. Anything else I wouldn't care.

2. A polish wheel on a dremel/hand cloth easily buffs scratches out on stainless

In my experience, stainless holds up extremely well. My dad kept his stainless Ruger Blackhawk in his basement for 15 years with no rust on it. In that same basement, bare carbon steel automotive parts develope a layer of surface rust in about a month.
