Convince me to buy a 1911 for home defense and not a high capacity 9mm.
>>
>>30501922
Ergonomics and .45 super

Also 8+1 is totally sufficient.
>>
Use a longarm instead.

>muh fuddy five
>>
>>30501922
Why?

Most high cap 9mms are better than most 1911s for practical use.

Also, why settle for 9mm? Why not take the high cap+low recoil a step further and get 5.7x28mm? 60% the recoil of 9mm, but with the same energy and ballistics.

Expensive round.

Not much more than 9mm, and cheaper than .45.

You can get it for around $18-20 per box of 50. The advantages outweigh the price disadvantage unless you are poor.
>>
If you live in a nice area the chances of you being home invaded are slim to none. And if such an even were to happen, most invaders would flee at the sound of the first shot anyway.

.45acp a shit. Get a 10mm 1911.

Just get both.

Dual wield a 1911 and Glock 17. It makes no sense but it's fun.
>>
>>30501922
The 1911 is the single best, and most successful handgun ever created. There is a reason why it was used from WW1 all the way to the modern day within certain units. It's true the highcap polymer 9mms are in style at the moment, but you will see that they will wane in popularity while the 1911 will maintain. It's classic, not flavor of the month.

Case in point, how many generations of 1911 are there? series 70, and 80. Maybe you can count the 2011 and double eagle? Meanwhile we are currently at generation 4 of the glock in less than 1/3rd the time as the 1911.
>>
>>30501922
how about a 9mm 1911?
>>
>>30502947
9mm 1911s are a little weird and have been known to have ejection issues. If you want a JMB-designed 9mm handgun, get a Hi-Power. If you want an improved Hi-Power that didn't have the French ruin the design with odd requirements, get a CZ75B.

>>
>>30502944
I disagree. The only reason it has such success is the strong aftermarket support and its famous-for-being-famous lineage. It's an antiquated design that's "good enough" and even then has all kinds of stuff wrong with it, like the grip safety. If you say that a grip safety is anything approaching a good idea, all of your opinions are immediately disregarded by anyone that knows what they're talking about because anything you'd be correct regarding is purely coincidence.
>>
>>30501922

Alright.

The average number of shots fired for a defensive gun usage is 2 or 3.
1911 gives you 9 total, so that's triple the average.

1911s have very good triggers, allowing for better shooting rapidly and under pressure.

1911s have very nice ergonomics, and you can change out the MSH to a different style to fit your hand better.
You can also change the grips, which can also modify ergonomics.

1911s have the largest aftermarket, so you can have your gun set up exactly how you want it.

1911s have more useful modifications available. For example, you could put in an oversized firing pin stop to decrease reward slide velocity, while keeping forward velocity the same.

1911s have multiple safeties on them, so it's nearly impossible to ND when fumbling around for your handgun in the dark half-asleep and confused.

Finally, if all else fails, they're much better for pistol whipping than a polymer gun.
>>
>>30503100
The 1911's trigger design is still one of the best ever. I prefer grip or frame safeties to slide safeties, and so does pretty much everyone who's not a diehard glockfag.
>>
>>30503100

>It's an antiquated design
old =! antiquated
>>
>>30503100
So what, you are going to discount the fact that it has wide aftermarket support? That is one of the biggest pros of the 1911, and is what makes it better than companies like Glock that do whatever they can to secure their IP, through routinely updating patents, to coating processes that are illegal in the US, and polymers that are proprietary and not widely available.

And for you to pretend that the grip safety is bad is hilarious. If you blend it properly it will never be a problem. In fact, maybe if other guns had them *cough glock* there would be a lesser chance of limp wristing them.
>>
>>30502944

>hi cap polymer 9mms will wane in popularity

People like you have been saying that since 1982
>>
>>30501922
don't do it. just get a modern pistol like Glock21
>>
>>30503166
...and it's people like you like to say that plastic guns are the future and everything else is obsolete, yet metal guns continue to sell in massive numbers and have remained popular. You would think that in the 3 and a half decades since polymer hit the scene, that the 1911, Sigs, berettas, etc would have lost popularity at least a little. Fun fact, 6 of the top 10 most common handguns in the US are metal.
>>
>>30503166
Well they have. Now we've got .40S&W and 10mm taking a big bite out of the market, and 10mm in particular only seems to be getting more popular as time passes.
>>
>>30503196
...or a P229 in .357 sig.
>>
>>30503235
I love Sig because my P226 has been flawless in every way.
I'd like to get a Sig in .45ACP actually. I'm sure .357Sig round is impressive. but I want to stay away from the lesser common calibers
>>
>>30503273
I have such a hard on right now for the 80% P228. If I could find a new slide, and parts I would do it this week. But of course Sig controls their German space magic heavily and won't sell most parts. The only way I can get the parts I would need is through a refurbed police kit.
>>
>>30503273
+1 for a Sig 1911. Very good gun at ~$800. The factory night sights are a big plus too. Only thing is that it will probably need a trigger job done. Like every other stock 1911 out there.
>>
It should be an ar15 or ar pistol
>>
>>30501922
assuming your hicap 9mm holds 14 rounds
and your 45 holds 8 rounds

some simple math here

9X5=45 so a 45 is 5 times stronger

meaning 8 45 rounds really equal 20 9mm giving you 7 more rounds to work with.

Do you have any arguments that don't boil down to capacity or the characteristics of a particular chambering?
>>
>>30501922

The STI Perfect 10 has 12+1 rounds with flush fit mags and has 22 round mags that fit it.

Its absurdly expensive of course; but 23 rounds of 10mm beats 30 rounds of 9mm from a Glock.

Plus its sexy.

The Glock 21 holds lots of rounds of .45 ACP
As does the FN.45, and the HK .45. All with superior modern platforms as opposed to a 1911

Glock 21 has a bad trigger?

I dont like the FN45 already had one.
I have a 1911 just dont like the platform.
It shoots fine. Triggers fine. But only 6 round mags and I hate the field stripping/assembly.
Glock or Sig is way easier for me to operate and maintain

Deagles in .357mag or .44mag are actually reasonable companion guns to lever-action carbines, especially the .44. They have a lot less recoil than equivalent revolvers.
