Can you own a Gatling gun in the U.S.? It's not technically semi-auto or automatic right? Since it's a crank? Just multi-chambered. I mean like the old Gatlin guns, not a Mini-Gun.

If you can somehow get your hands on one
>>
>>30484345
These are the real fucking questions.
>>
>>30484345
Get a CNC mill. Make it yourself. Law doesn't stop you from owing a minigun either. As long as it was pre-ban.

as long as it is hand cranked, you can. There are gatling triggers for small arms.

For instance, you can buy a gatling trigger for a Ruger 10/22

You can also buy a 200 round magazine for a Ruger 10/22

You can put these both on the same Ruger 10/22.
>>
>>30484358
Gotta get one and mount it in the back of a pickup truck.

>>30484371
But can't I not purchase it off of anyone?
>>
>>30484384
Gatling guns, the hand cranked kind, are specifically not machine guns according to the law. You can buy one. It's more can you FIND one.

Followup question from OP, can I own a cannon and its projectiles?
>>
>>30484444
as far as I recall you can own even modern guns up to 37mm but you have to register every round for it as destructive device or something.
>>
>>30484548
>register every round for it as destructive device or something.
That's only if the round itself contains an explosive charger of greater than 1/4 ounce. Smoothbore cannons being muzzle loaders are not subject to the NFA.
>>
>>30484444
You are allowed to own large pieces of metal, yes.
>>
>>30484373
Would it be illegal if I bought 2 of those, strapped the side to side, and connected the cranks?
>>
>>30484444
Smooth bore muzzleloader cannons are specifically exempt from the DD the qualification.
>>
>>30484384
Build the gatling yourself. Learn to metal. Mini can be made from parts. Old friend's uncle (I know how that sounds) tried to build one from parts. He got a motor and electrical assembly for it, two barrels and some of the action housing. I'm sure with the money you could do better
>>
>>30484613
I've shot a gun once, I was just asking hypothetically.
>>
>>30484613
>got a motor and electrical assembly for it
that's not a gatling that's a mini. A mini is illegal to build. A gatling is not.

Gatling guns are cowboy era.

You very much can own one.

http://gatlingguns.net/ - order designs, make it yourself.

http://www.colt.com/Catalog/Special-Editions/1877-Bulldog-Gatling-Gun - Colt offers this museum-quality piece, apparently.
>>
Yes. Colt was selling them for 40k a few years age

Where can you get a 200 round 10/22 mag?
The most I've been able to find is 150.

Not sure if it's still made but it was available in kit form. Shop around.

They cannot be destructive projectiles either.
>>
>>30484345
If I am correct, a crank fire gattling gun is totally legal, even in California.
>>
>>30484345

yeah, I usually see them for sale at j and g as well as Atlantic firearms

They aren't even firearms, are they? You could have them shipped to your door in a free state.
>>
>>30484685
Could you make a copy of a modern minigun with a crank instead of a motor?
>>
>>30484685
So any kind of motor to turn the crank makes it illegal? What if you hooked it up to some kind of wind-up spring?
>>
>>30488505
Why wouldn't they be firearms? They're a tube open at one end which uses the pressure from a chemical reaction to accelerate a projectile. Is there some other legal definition of firearm?
>>
>>30489743
you said it yourself its just a tube
>>
>>30489820
So how does that make them not a firearm?
>>
>>30489859
Is a piece of lead pipe with a cap a firearm?
>>
>>30489859
federal law dictates that muzzleloaders and non cartridge black powder guns, pinfire and cartridge firearms made before 1889 are not Firearms, how fucking new are you?
>>
If black powder weapons aren't "firearms", does that mean that the government could legally ban them without violating the second amendment? Or are they still considered "arms" in 2A terms but not "firearms"?
>>
>>30489731
You mean like a fly wheel? Not entirely sure.
>>
>>30491237
They aren't defined as firearms under federal law (and most state laws). That doesn't mean anything on a Constitutional level.
>>
>>30491365
The Constitution is essentially meaningless if the terms it uses are not legally defined.
>>
>>30489731
Any kind. It must be hand cranked.

That said. You can gear it so that one turn of the crank fires the weapon more than once.
>>

Question 22
http://imgur.com/a/vt2Qz
>>
>>30491849
What? Are you suggesting that whatever definition the Feds attach to words should govern for Constitutional interpretation? Because if so it'd be insanely easy to gut. All Congress would have to do is pass a bill defining arms to not include firearms or speech to not include spoken or written words in any format.
>>
what about this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCfqhsQLnGc
>>
>>30492390
Those definitions should be part of the Constitution then. Otherwise it's very easy to manipulate the meaning.
>>
>>30484384
>can I purchase one

Sure. It is legally a semi auto. Very few people make them and they are fucking expensive. I have seen them for sale for like 30 fucking grand.
>>
>>30488517
If you have the skill, sure.

Never seen one though.

>>
>>30484580
It would be legal if only one trigger fired at a time.
>>
>>30489743
Following that logic barrels would be firearms.
>>30491237
The constitution doesn't use the term firearm. The legal definition of firearm has bearing on the 2nd amendment.
>>
>>30497807
>Following that logic barrels would be firearms.
Can a barrel withstand the pressure to fire a projectile at sufficient velocity to do lethal damage? The definition should really be based on the kinetic energy or penetration of the projectile, not the actual design of the weapon.

>The constitution doesn't use the term firearm. The legal definition of firearm has bearing on the 2nd amendment.
No, but the term "arm" is used. Is it clearly defined anywhere? Because if "arm" just means "weapon", one could easily argue that a total ban on guns would not be a violation, since there still exists SOME weapon that we can legally own.
>>
>>30484345
Yes you can, ATF doesn't consider it a machine gun by law because it basically doesn't use one pull of the trigger to fire multiple rounds per minute
>>
>>30484567
What if it's a hotchkiss gun? Are smoothbore breechloaders exempt as well?
