I live in D.C due to work and was wondering what weapons would be good. I've been issued my CCW license but I don't have funs yet.
I want a rifle and a pistol, 10 round mag limit. I was thinking the Mini 14 due to the assault weapons ban and maybe a Walther PPK or a Mak. What should I get?

And I know it sounds cliche as all hell, but I'd take an SKS over a mini 14 if I was limited to 10 rounds.

Oh, and I can only get a stripper clip SKS. Detachable mags are a no go for that specific rifle which is why I didn't choose that.

Idk, I'd rather have 10 reliable shots with slow as shit reload than 10 questionably reliable shots with a faster reload. Just my opinion.
Are you experienced with handguns? Preference between striker fired and DA/SA?

You should move to VA. Not much of a commute, prices are lower. Hell even MD is better than DC itself.
It would also help us make recommendations if you told us what you want, like, expected budget, and if you need to perform some kind of job or purpose like home defense, competition, etc.
Also if your government work is some kind of security, you might be exempt from some of the laws DC has. If it isn't, remember that that CCW can't be taken into MANY places in DC.
HK P2000 or USP Compact. Prefer LEM but DA/SA can be had if you so desire. Their neutered magazines are known to be reliable.
For a rifle, personally I'd look at an Ares SCR (should pass any AWB) over a Mini 14 if you want .223/5.56. For HD, I'd honestly suggest a Mossberg 500 or 590 over either -- PR concerns and such, and many of the cited advantages of 5.56 carbines aren't really applicable to you in a HD role (and less so now that you're stuck with neutered mags).
For a fun rifle, I'd look at something in .308 or .30-06. M-1, M-1A, etc. I have no idea what DC's AWB is like but I have a hard time believing a Garand is going to be illegal.

Alright, all M1As in my area are through the roof. At the local gun store I found a Mini 14 Ranch for 900 and a P2000 in 40 S&W for 600.
