>Taiwanese missile boats accidentally fires an Hsiung Feng III anti-ship missile at a fishing boat, killing one and injuring three forty nautical miles away
>Some fuckhead, forgot to switch it to simulation mode from combat mode
>Despite all this, defence officials are privately pleased with the 'success'
>“It was very efficient. The fishing boat was made of carbon fiber with a low cross section and yet the missile did its job.”

Damn, that's savage

Yahoo actually reported this as "Taiwan accidentally fires 'carrier-killing missile' towards China". No joke.

Taiwanese people are actually pretty alright.

Impressive

The Republic of China has gotten a true advantage over other Asian nations. That is a truly battle tested design that can defeat stealth and render EW obsolete. Philippine fishing boats be warned, obey the Republic of China.

Oo, it's a ramjet.

That's cool.
>>
>>30475367
Yeah, with a range of 300km. The thing that's most impressive about it to me is that the Taiwanese built these 500t corvettes to launch these, and each corvette carries 8 of them.

If I were PLAN, I'd really wonder how the fuck did Taiwan get to this point in missile tech when they haven't a space program.
>>
>>30475408
To be fair, India has a space program and yet they produce weapons like the Arjun and the INSAS.
>>
Positive as fuck.

That feeling this debacle sparks more orders for the missiles.

We should keep in mind that Taiwan intends to make more of these corvettes.

>The Tuo Jiang, created under the “Swift Sea” program, is a 500-tonne displacement vessel capable of reaching speed 38 knots per hour (~70kph). It packs a powerful punch, with eight Hsiung Feng (HF-2) subsonic anti-ship missiles (ASM) and eight Hsiung Feng 3 (HF-3) supersonic ASMs. This gives the boat twice the firepower currently found on Kidd-class destroyers and Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates

Missilethreat.com says that

>Taiwan’s local build experience already includes eight Perry-class frigates (Cheng Kung-class), 31 170-ton Kuang Hua 6 fast-attack missile boats armed with Hsiung Feng 2 missiles, 11 500-ton Ching Chiang-class missile patrol boats armed with ramjet-powered supersonic Hsiung Feng 3 missiles, and is building 12 600-ton Hsun Hai-class (Sea Swift-class) corvettes also armed with the Hsiung Feng 3.

So yeah, more of these heavily armed boats will be in service.

>According to IHS Jane's Strategic Weapon Systems , the subsonic Hsiung Feng II is equipped with a 225 kg high-explosive (HE) semi-armour-piercing warhead and has a range of 81 n miles, while the supersonic Hsiung Feng III packs a 120 kg HE warhead and can engage targets up to 70.2 n miles away. It is known that extended-range variants of the Hsiung Feng II have been developed, but neither the RoCN nor CSIST would be drawn on whether these improved systems have been installed on Tuo Jiang

8x missiles with 225kg HE rounds that can go 81 NM and 8x supersonic missiles capable of reaching target in excess of 70NM as of 2015 officially.

>Moreover, new technologies, such as the Sea Oryx surface-to-air missile (SAM) system and the navalised Tien Chien II air defence missile developed by CSIST, could potentially be incorporated onto subsequent Tuo Jiang-class vessels

So /k/, what do you think?

Having worked with Taiwanese for 10 years, and spent a few weeks there, my views are mixed.

Whilst they had outwardly good manners, they were dishonest as fuck. I don't believe anything they say until after it actually happens, and I've checked.

That said, Chinese are the same, minus the manners.

The chicks a cute as fuck though, once you het accustomed to the flared nostrils.

It didnt hit a Chinese trawler, but a Taiwanese one.

Chinese radars actually detected the missile upon launch and they already prepped their SAMs to intercept, but calmed down after five second once seeing that it crashed into one of Taiwan's own ships.

>>
Was the fishing boat actually targeted in the simulation or did they just happen to be in the wrong area at the wrong time and the terminal guidance picked it up?

Also do those boats actually have a radar capable of designating the missile or does another platform hand off the designation to them?

>>
>>30476132
Considering Taiwan is less than 1% the size of California, that's a significant air force build up. It wouldn't have parity with Chinese air power in the theater, but China only has 700 4th gen fighters in inventory. F16s and mirage fighters would hold their own for a while.

And the fuckton of missile boats hunting transport craft and China's shit tier green water coastal defense craft would give the PLN a black eye before the 7th fleet kicks off WWIII by sinking the entire chinese navy in retaliation
>>
>>30479360
Chinese would shut down Taiwanese airbases with their 1500+ ballistic missiles before any air-campaign. Only a fraction of Taiwan's airforce would survive. And those that survive will be mopped up with one or two J-11B/J-10A regiments alone.
>>
>>30480573
If they wasted that amount of ordinance they'd be septuple fucked when the 7th fleet sinks everything with a PLN flag instead of only quintuple fucked.

Hence the assload of missile boats to murder you slant eyed fucks before you get to the good slant eyed fucks.

Also the idea that China would move and commit most of their fighter fleet to establish total air superiority over Taiwan's ~70 odd F16s knowing that two carrier battle groups are about to fuck up their shit is laughable. They need those where they are to keep the Indians from saber rattling at them harder anyway.

But
>Implying China will start WWIII/ lose out on best and greatest economic frenemy USA's desire for globalism by taking a small ass island that offers no strategic or economic value but will give the PLA and PLN a black eye militarily before you take the new Jersey sized country and uniformly lower China's standing in the world.

It's designed to detonate after initial penetration through the warship's armored hull, as you would expect any anti-ship missiles to do. In this case it didn't detonate simply because over-penetrated the fishing boat's paper thin wheelhouse walls.
