actually that's how you travel with a firearm.
step 1: acquire fucking secure hard sided suitcase. metal is good, think halliburton.
step 2: put your gun inside the main suitcase, unloaded, in a softcase, like with a zipper.
step 3: put your ammo in the suitcase. it cannot be loaded into magazines iirc, and it cannot be in the same soft case as the gun, but it can be in a box in the same suitcase.
step 4: put NON TSA LOCKS all over the hardsided suitcase.
step 5: declare that you're travelling with a firearm in checked luggage at the ticket desk.
step 6: the attendant will have you escorted to a security room where the TSA or airport police will have you open the case, verify to them that the gun is unloaded, and have you lock the case back up. they are NOT ALLOWED to touch the gun. they are not allowed to even dig through your other items in the case. it will be x-rayed, of course.
step 7: they put special tags on your case, if it goes missing all hell breaks loose.
step 8: no one can snoop in your case without a warrant now.
step 9: this is how i take a kilo of molly to major festivals on airplanes multiple times per year (in a protein powder canister, ofc- gotta keep dem gainz going)
or you could be like my photographer friend and get a cheap flaregun (counts as a firearm) and use it like i do my glock to keep TSA thieves away from his cameras and lenses and laptops.
