I've been watching the Somme commemoration, and I was wondering what sort of guns these would be.
Are they a standard British weapon?
>>30464281
Yes.
>>30464281
That's a FN SC180 in 6.5 x 45 mm, standard issue for Prince of Wales' Own Culveriniers Regiment and other highly ceremonial units.
L85A2s with parade covers over the handguard and the SUSAT sight
>>30464312
Don't know what the fuck you're going on about
It's the L85A2/SA80, standard British service rifle
>>30464318
M8, my uncles Geoff served with the Royal Haberdasher Corps during the Siam Crisis, he told me all about them
>>30464318
>the joke, your head
>>30464340
here you go
>>30464281
whats with the hats
>>30464387
Elite troops used to wear large, distinctive hats to allow commanders to easily distinguish them from a distance.
>>30464387
Where do you think soldiers keep their rations?
>>30464281
>Are they a standard British weapon?
You spent zero time trying to figure this out on your own.
>>30464387
Makes them seem taller and, therefor, more aggressive, it's a real blow to enemy morale on the battlefield.
>>30464281
Funfact: I was there
>>30464441
In fact im still here
>>30464387
Really big heads
>>30464441
>>30464449
Nice
Looked a bit dreary honestly. What do you do normally? Or was everyone there just a regular soldier dressed up?
>>30464484
Guards are full-time regular soldiers.
>>30464449
>massive pile of guns
How do you know which one is yours?
>>30464484
I'm not a bong Im a French 2nd LT. I was at the far side in OP's photo.
They are dressed like this right now.
>>30464511
Number is usually scribbled in paint marker or has a label.
>Not having kept Lee Enfields for drill purposes
Why in the fuck though?
>>30464521
Is there anywhere left even making them?
>>30464318
It's a ruse.
>>30464521
Because the guards are not just ceremonial and wouldn't want to have them defending with a bolt action?
>>30464521
It's a long story, but basically, since they're actual soldiers, just wearing a ceremonial uniform, they're expected to use their actual service rifle at all times.
For the same reason that palace guards use their SA80; they are actually guarding those institutions, and have the authority to use those weapons. You couldn't say the same for an Enfield.
>>30464532
You've just made me imagine them fighting a wave of terrorists armed only with Lee Enfields. Fuck that would be a spectacular sight.
>>30464524
No, but they shouldn't have surplused the off in the 60s and 70s.
I mean there were thousands and thousands of unissued No4 Mk2s that were made in the 50s that they sold off instead of kept. Thankful that they did though.
I guess we were very strapped for cash, we pissed away our marshall aid, we still had rationing at the time the last Lee Enfield was being made and we were giving food aid to places in Europe at the same time.
>>30464544
There just wasn't really any point in keeping them. The SLR was a demonstrably better weapon in every way, and there wasn't any point in taking up all that room for eleventy billion obsolescent rifles and the security to make sure they weren't stolen or whatever.
>>30464514
Are you Airborne qualified?
I'm a U.S, Army Ranger (veteran). 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. I am fascinated by the Airborne troops of France.
>>30464387
Some British Guard regiments wear Bearskins as they beat Napolean's Grenadiers at Waterloo.
>>30464532
You'd definitely want a No1 Mk3 and a fucking 1907 Patt sword if you were on guard in London.
Do you even think anyone would go full Somalian on you if you had this to hand? If people wanted to kick off you wouldn't even have to chamber a round, you could push through their rib cage from across the street.
>>30464552
Actually the SLR was rarely better than 4MOA while a Fazakerley from the mid 50s was about half that or better. But otherwise you're correct.
>>30464565
God that makes me hard.
>>30464565
How would you even effectively use that
>>30464688
As a spear.
>>30464556
>>30464556
Not me, half the battalion is, but unfortunately I was injured.
What interests you in particular?
>>30464387
they're not hats
british redguards are born into cervix and are never allowed to cut their hair unless defeated in battle
>>30464565
>mfw my enfield no3 mk1 looks exactly like the one in the pic
feelsgoodman
>>30464777
You have a dream.
>>30464778
>tfw I really want one
Fuggin gun laws
>>30464387
Killed some french and took their hat, then it became a tradition. Welcome to the military..
>>30464521
Suddenly I'm glad the US still has 1903s and Garands (and presumably a few M-14s) for ceremonial and drill purposes.
>>30464565
>Do you even think anyone would go full Somalian on you if you had this to hand?
The L85 bayonet works just fine for that.
>>30464511
You have some way of telling, otherwise you end up having Andrew "Nutter" Anderson telling you that's his rifle and he insists he can tell it's his despite the lack of markings.
>>30464565
That's not even a bayonet, that's just a fucking sword.
>>30465676
No shit sherlock.

Scent. Household units are trained to use their noses much like the people who design perfume and cologne scents can. In fact they can smell their own personally issued weaponry from 2 furlongs away.

Either climb out of the trench and walk slowly toward the german machine guns, or be shot later for cowardice. The slaughter started at 7:30am; eight "casualties" per second.
Now, a gender-challenged person can earn a presidential medal of freedom because someone called them a 'fag'.

When watching Reagan's casket on C-Span, I noticed some honor guards using M14s
